My Brutally Honest Review Of The Sims 4 Vintage Glamour Stuff

It’s sad that the actual gameplay portions of literally all add on/DLC has been broken since release….even in the smaller packs smh

The devs can’t seem to wrap their heads around the fact that we want stuff for the kids when we get these packs. They could have a lot of Shirley Temple inspired outfits and looks for toddlers along with wallpaper and floors. There was actually a lot of interesting style choices for bassinets and cribs that look vary ornate back in the day

In their promotion, butler is an adult. In actual game, job for elders only.
In my play, since I've C&D EP, my butler literally chose home made pet food to eat beside other human food.

I remember I bought this pack specifically for the Get Famous pack, I wanted my celebrities to have butlers and a vanity table. I immediately tried to give Judith Ward a butler and it did not go well. The butler did not arrive to the house because, just like any other sim in sims 4, he was too busy talking to the crowd outside her house to be able to get inside!!

I probably use this pack more than any other stuff pack. The similarities to Get Famous is something I actually appreciate, since I like a few things from one pack but not the other, and I can mix and match.

I got this pack for the aesthetic. I absolutely love it. Oddly enough where Get Famous feels over the top to me, Vintage Glamour looks perfect. And the clothes that it does have are wonderful. Don’t care much one way or the other about the butler, so to me that’s just a fun bonus, even if problematic at times.

SatchOnSims - Agree that there are some nice pieces in CAS like the smoking jacket - and peignoir (00:53), which we're probably using for next episode.
The build/buy is indeed (03:02) very similar to 'Get Famous' pack.
Agree with everything you say about the (04:14) butler npc (great on paper, buggy execution), which is a shame.
On a sort-of side note, would be interested in more retro packs, like fashion and objects and gameplay from 1930s, 1940s, and so on.
Some 'simmers' put a lot of effort into designing plausible outfits or objects fom different periods of history. It'd be nice to have at least a few packs with this theme.

This pack could’ve been so good 😩 I love the build/buy items but the butler is so glitchy - so tired of EA releasing packs that only half work, I won’t be purchasing any new ones this year.

I agree with everything you pointed out, as far as the butler not working, this is like the nanny, some are good and some are bad, if you get a bad one fire them and hire a different one, if the same one comes to your home kill them off so the game will have to replace them, I hired a nanny that told my sim she didn't clean diapers or messes, she was gone in the blink of an eye.

When i first got the Sims 4, bought it along with this pack and a couple others. One of my first houses used was this house and remember remodelling that exact bedroom using all the pink I could find in the VG pack. Before I upgraded to a PC that could handle CC, was obsessed with this pack. So nostalgic 😅😅

For a Stuff pack, this is one of the best with the most items/gameplay. Only paranormal stuff is better... If you need more help with the kids, hire a nanny together with a butler. Also praise the butler for better work results... 😉

I remember getting a butler and giving him a tiny house on my lot. But he never used the bed, nothing. Kind of defeats the purpose of giving the butler his own little part of the estate. I never got a butler again.

Note, Vintage Glamour came out before Get Famous so technically the comparison should go the opposite way (GF's style is too similar to VGL) 😆 I also think maybe the gameplay section should count for less (or more in the GP and EP reviews), since the focus is supposedly on the "stuff"... Might bring the score down but I mean, that's why I have the SPs that I have - for the stuff 😅
Like dine out, I fix VGL's gameplay with mods. Specifically the control any sim mod for butlers because autonomously, they're just a hassle and being able to direct them when really needed is a lifesaver during gameplay -even if it's simply to make time appropriate meals like breakfast at...breakfast lol

I absolutely love the CAS and Build/Buy. I'm iffy on getting Get Famous instead because I don't like the World, I'm not interested in the career, and I don't want the reputation system interfering with my regular gameplay.

I guess, I'll just make a butler in CAS then. I was really looking to play a Bruce-raised-by-Alfred scenario but I should have known EA would drop the ball. Again. My only hope is that a simmer will make a mod to make this pack works, like someone did with Dine Out.

I do love the globe bar. And ok fine, I love all the stuff. I remodeled a whole house with round walls and all the vintage/art deco stuff from vintage glamour, get famous and high school years. So then I made a family with the haircuts and clothes. I started playing and they all immediately pulled out their cell phones. 🤦‍♀ The butler worked ok but it’s annoying you have to tell him to go to bed. And I think he needs to complete all the preset tasks like cleaning and laundry before he can do specific commands like make food. I would ask him to make food and get a notification that he couldn’t complete the task because he was busy with other stuff so I’d make a sim cook something and then like 6 hours later he would make food. He did make his own food too, not sure why yours didn’t. I didn’t have any toddlers or babies so I didn’t test that but I did notice he would talk to the kids and they could ask him for help with homework and school projects like any other adult.

Love this series! Not to state the obvious, but I can’t help noticing a pattern in these reviews… cas and build/buy always ranges from alright to excellent, whereas gameplay and performance are super bad! It’s so sad that the sims team always focus on the superficial stuff rather than giving us an in-depth gameplay experience

This is one of the packs I quite like, but would like to see a bit more to it. I like how it plays well together with moschino and get famous - and the butler is something I really enjoy having for my more expensive households. I tend to find that the butler's personality is important - a neat butler will clean up more often than average, for example. I also love that the butler can tell ALL the visitors to go home at the same time. Great especially with parties, where people can linger for too long.
I also like the vanity for the kid gameplay since they can get a makeup look wrong! It's also great for photoshoots for weddings or other important times, as well as historical gameplay.

Haven't had a problem with this one! I honestly really love it.

I've had an idea in the back of my head for a while of renovating the Judith Ward house with Vintage Glamour, and also making over her wardrobe. She's very old Hollywood.

Not to say the devs are stupid or don’t care at all.
It’s just the “more stuff for kids” is something everyone has been asking for. And it also feels like even when they make something nice it feels like the Sims 4 packs make just enough to make the pack valid rather then make it worth it and it’s a bit frustrating

omg i've never had any issues with butlers and it's one of my fave gameplay options. most of my big households, or even single household "supersims" always employ a butler, becaus I find the game unbearable without them.especially with the autonomous leaving of plates and glasses all around the house. with a butler i don't have to look for what is stinking up the place, they'll do it for me, next to gardening, fixing things, cooking etc. i saw someone mention that they always get elder sims, i am playing now with a butler who's a young adult, so i guess it's not always elders.
i just... love butlers ok. wish i had one irl.

For a butler or housekeeper I just make a sim that's not related live in the household that way I have total control over them. I wonder if there is a mod to fix the butlers in the game. It's sad when the community needs to mod to fix basic DLC functions of a game EA is still working on.

A bug I've had with butlers has prevented me from telling them not to do certain things. The option to do so is available, but even when the butler tasks are turned off, the butler will still do those things.

Basically this pack sums up the Sims 4 situation entirely. Build/Buy mode is promising, Cas is pretty good, gameplay is problematic, and performance is quite concerning and kinda broken. Yup, sounds like a common Sims 4 analysis.

Nice review and I agree in lots of points of it but toddlers weren't a thing when Vintage Glamour Stuff came out, just by a month...

I really hope EA would do a vintage glamour refresh and fix the damn butler. But who are we kidding, it's not going to happen. Also all my butlers so far have had the evil trait - like what the hell? so they're randomly mean to their supposed employers. I also found if i fire the butler and request another - they will send the same damn butler! Come on EA....

I have no issues with the Butler.. I had no idea it was bugged for so many people. My Butler is always on top of things .... looking after kids, cooking , cleaning 🤷‍♀️

i don't care for make up (although when you say it like that, it do sounds fun), but i thought it was really interesting to have a butler (imagine the one hell of a butler Sebastian). but after seeing other people's gameplays where the butlers didn't do their job, i scratch the idea of buying this pack. thanks for reviewing this.

My S4 butler does very little unless given a directive and is almost completely useless. He never eats, bathes or uses the bathroom and only acts on orders to sleep. If he was an alcoholic like in S3 it would be more interesting but S4 removed that. I was especially disappointed that he didn't at least spontaneously do laundry and there is no option to assign that task. However I still added him to my fav family because he's no trouble really and my vampire now has convenient food without hunting every other day and the family's elder mother-in-law has a handy whoohoo diversion when she chooses. Haven't had a party yet but I'd be surprised if he proved himself an asset.

CaS stuff is nice, but very small compared to any CaS kit. 5/10 is pretty generous. I'd score it at 2/10.
Agree for the build-buy score. Gorgeous... But, I already have most of it from Get Famous.
About game play... What you say made me guess that your score would be about 4/10, 5/10 if generous.

Butler should be base game, but I think the build/buy items are great and very worth the price. Use with Decor to the Max and Blooming Rooms for maximum effect.

Ugh love the vanity mirror definitely wish that was base game! Otherwise I agree the pack is a little too close to Get Famous for me to add it to my game.

I honestly even tried the butler mod, by lil miss Sam, but I didn’t notice much difference? I might also not be utilizing the mod fully, as my ADHD brain can be apt to do.

Checked the reviews on my Xbox, Apparently someone got it to somewhat work recently. I have 11$ on my Microsoft account, and I wanted to get vintage glamor, but I don't really think I want to anymore

You do have to tell the butler to go to sleep

It did not come with enough vintage clothes which pissed me off. The butler is a nice idea if they were not so stupid that they start to use their spray bottle on wood.

I think the buy itens from this pack complement very well Get famous. This pack itens are more 20s century while Get famous is renascence.
