My 8th grade teacher almost got fired for showing us this movie a few days before the end of the school year. I'm so glad he did because it really showed me how simple it is to get lost in the idea of just labeling people by clique instead of digging deeper and realizing we are all much more similar than we realize

random4606 It was rated R bro. The reason was because of the weed smoking and constant swearing. Our principal didn't like the idea of him showing it to us since we were all 13/14 but after he explained why he wanted to show it the principal agreed and allowed him to show it to us.

B+ student had my share of troubles from teachers to bullies but I handled those situations with ease and always came out on top in a low key fashion. It was just perfect,if I had some type of weird mysterious time warp that sent my mind back into my teenage body i wouldn't change a thing. The only grade I had major hell with was the 6th grade. Everyone at that school were assholes.

    Dear Mr. Vernon,
We accept the fact we had to sacrifice the whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was we did wrong.
But we think you're crazy to make us write an essay telling you who we think we are. You see us as you want to see us: in the simplest terms, with the most convenient definitions.
But what we found out is that each of is a brain,
    and an athlete,
    and a basket case,
    a princess,
    and a criminal.
    Does that answer your question?
    Sincerely yours,

Well. I think that for John the criminal is a shell, he is protecting himself with it. With Claire he dont have to do it, because they are somehow similar.. their parents are similar, they are using their kids. So in the end John opens his shell and kisses Claire tenderly, there is no reason to be criminal.

0:10-0:16 in the background it looks like Bender is joking around with Claire, switching sides behind her each time she looks back. They haven't even shared the kiss yet and already he's more comfortable with her, showing her is playful personality, as if she's already his girlfriend. I bet it was improved. Judd Nelson is the best.

Such an old comment but I can't help responding lol. I too noticed how he's sort of being playful in the background (I love them, so my eyes are on them the whole time). However, I just want to add that their first kiss was actually in the closet but it didn't make it to the final cut & is not even on the extended or deleted scenes on DVD. I've only seen it in 1 or 2 clips & it's shown very briefly, but it looks very sweet & tender. I think John Hughes had said something about how kissing gets repetitive very quickly so maybe he felt it would be more meaningful to leave in only that kiss by the car.

My best friend and I know all the words to this wonderful movie...it's just one of those pictures that you can watch anytime...the messages never lose meaning. Even if you're a jock...or hood...or nerd...or princess...or outcast...deep down, you were still just a teenage kid, trying to figure out life and not embarrass yourself while doing it...it's ok to question life. I honestly wish that every teenager got a chance to live & love life the way I did...you're only young once, and that time will disappear before you know. You'll be staring out the window in that boring geometry class, wishing the clock would speed up...and then in the blink of an eye, you'll be looking at yourself in the mirror, wondering what happened to the last 20 years. Trust me. Please, live your life and have as much fun as possible, because once you hit adulthood EVERYTHING changes.

I watched this the first time when I was about 16, I was in a sensitive period and probably the most intense year of my teens. I related to this movie so hard, in every single way. All the things they talk about in the movie are always relevant and important for all teens, no matter if it's in the 80s or 2010s. I've never before seen a teen movie shed light on these issues in such a genuine way, without making dumb jokes and oversimplifying. Amazing movie, and the soundtrack makes me so happy.

I am so pleased it helped. Adolescence can be an especially brutal life change- especially if there is few, or noone there to help you. Some kids dont survive to make it thru. Important for you to always remember the strength you gained navagating it successfully- your experience can make all the difference if you can share it with a kid still struggling. And when that kid makes it thru, he can help the next, and ongoing, so start that chain raction where best you see it most needed

The only plausible scenario of what *could* have happened the following Monday is this - Brian would continue to be a nerdy, socially-awkward, kid with a promising future. He would consider everyone in the group his friends. For Andrew and Allison, they probably would have became a couple, but only for a short period of time. Then for Bender and Claire, they would have passed each other in the hall but not with the same resentment as they once held. Claire's gift to Bender of her earring was a token of her appreciation in seeing the truth behind the facade within her social clique. While it's possible to envision them as a couple, the reality of the situation was far too complicated. Claire came from wealth and good looks while Bender came from an abusive family only to rely on his toughness and street smarts to survive.
The ending is open to interpretation and discussion, however it's important to note that all of them left Saturday detention changed people. The story truly defines what culture was like back in the eighties and how high school played a serious role in their future. They entered as strangers but left as friends.

But, unlike you guys, we went out on dates, had school dances where we actually got up and danced. And didn't view everything like it was the end of the world, the way today's teenagers do. We knew how to have fun, talk to our friends, and enjoy the simple things...

John Hughes is one of those rare people out of Hollywood that really captured the essence of the coming of age genre. He didn't make films about getting laid, most if not all of his films delve into deep interpersonal connections with other humans. Planes Trains and Automobiles is a fantastic film about communicating and relating with people different than yourself. If you haven't seen it, check it out. Steve Martin and John Candy should have earned best actor Oscars, but Oscars tend to favour intense dramatic, epic films.

They should never do a remake of this it's a timeless classic that was my teen years... love Alison always related to her 💖

NO. They shouldn't. Remakes (in my VERY humble opinion) aren't always done well. SOME things should truly just be left alone. This is one.

Some things are just sacred and should be left untouched. In 2016, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".

We don't need an SJW "woke" remake of this. You're right

Have to admit - without "Futurama" I would have not watched "The Breakfast Club", but I do not regret it. There are a lot of movies out there that "teach" you "You have to look behind the surface" - but "Breakfast Club" does it without this "morale index finger" of e.g. Disney Movies (nothing against Disney Movies, I just needed an example).
Unfortunately not only teachers see their students pressed into a scheme, but as we grow we tend to press "us" into a scheme as well, because we want to be seen in a certain light - forgetting that we are a prism, not a single color. When one calls her/himself "A Gamer" everyone acts surprised when (s)he's saying "And I like Body-building". When (s)he calls her/himself a Body-builder everybody seems to be surprised that (s)he's into science and/ or arts ....

same I was rewatching victorious and I saw some unseen episodes, one of them was a parody of the breakfast club "the breakfast bunch". I loved the episode even though it was very very fast. I searched the episode up on youtube and in the comments people kept saying "wow why would they trash such a good movie?"
In otherwords I had to check out the movie myself. I FELL IN LOVE WITH IT!!!!

Everytime my friends and I would skip school back in the 90s, we would have to walk across the football field like Bender to get off school property, once we knew we were in the clear, we would always hold our fist up the same way lol, good memories.
