Sunmi wrote this song about her BPD (borderline personality disorder) I’m so proud of her for opening up about her struggles and even writing a song about it

“please be on my side” is the corest point of bpd, and that’s just so heartbreaking

The comments here make me tear up every time. The outpouring of support for Sunmi is amazing. I'm so used to people saying we (people with BPD) are monsters so coming back here to read the words of love and acceptance from people who don't have BPD makes me so emotional. Especially the comments from people who have loved ones with BPD who are hard to deal with and even despite that, y'all don't think we're Incurably Evil (tm) as a whole. Thank you. Sunmi deserves great fans like you.

I remember when Sunmi would get panic attacks when she was in Wonder Girls, she would have to sit out of the performance and have ttouble breathing. I am so happy for her, I remember she said her dream was to become a singer that moves people (emotionally). Well Sunmi, you have achieved this, I am so proud of you and happy you chose to continue creating music.😚

As someone with bpd..i feel seen, this song is so beautiful, from the beginning of the song talking about how she pretended everything was okay trying to hide away the pain. Wanting to be represented by the world as a "good girl" Scared that bpd will make her seem scary and unstable. I find the second and third verse most accurate.. Bpd is very tiring, she mentioned a bird in her head, because thats literally what it feels like, a trapped bird trying to find its way to freedom and happiness, but instead their trapped in a dark toxic place. She also mentioned taking Xanax, which i relate too. I did anything to try and escape the void in my head and heart, but even still i ended up always feeling empty inside after the effects wore off. The scariest thing about living with bpd is knowing that out of nowhere you can take your anger out on someone for something small or no reason at all, there will be times where I'd just hate a person for no reason and nothing really could explain why i felt that way. My favorite verse in the song is "dont put me in a bad light, until im in the lime light." Bpd is already very stigmatized and misunderstood... We do tend to act irrationally only because we're scared, scared of people leaving, and scared of being seen as bad. We try very hard just to stabilize the thoughts in our heads and not project, but when we do project we end up feeling smaller afterwards. This song was very accurate and beautiful and im very greatful sunmi came out about this.

As someone who struggles with mental health it feels comforting when popular artists sing about it. It's so brave and makes them more human and easier to connect to. Respect to Sunmi and her dancing is so beautiful here ❤

Being the eldest daughter of an Asian family is literally a struggle in itself. Sunmi, the eldest, has worked her ass off in the music industry since she was a minor. She had to deal with pervs, weirdos, and haters all together, trying to act tough for her image not to be tainted. She's a blessing for her family (giving them a sense of pride bc their little girl grew to be a successful and well-loved artist) as well as fans whom she inspired dearly and to those random people who are touched by this side of her, a vulnerable one. Thank you Sunmi for sharing your story that most, if not all, of us can relate to. It really pains me that you went through such horrid things but you carried yourself so well that it seems we didn't have to worry much about you. Stay beautiful!

Like Sumni said before, this song feel really raw. But it’s my kind of favorite song. Really admired that she finally released this song because it’s deeply personal : how she used to suffer but kept pretending that everything was okay. Even admitted she was taking Xanax, this may seem overdone to say in the western music industry but in Korea where mental illness are still taboo especially among idol that have to keep the perfect image, it’s really inspiring. This mature, dark yet sexy concept is everything I would hope to see even more in future song. The visuals are very classy and give this high fashion vibe I love. Moreover I was surprised this song is in English but il really suit the meaning of the song with her sultry voice, and the choreography feel almost contemporary (and seems difficult to achieve in live so really exciting to see it).

Being the eldest child in a family is already difficult enough, at a young age her father got really ill and they face financial difficulties. She quickly became the sole breadwinner and had to find a way to make a lot of money fast to afford her father's treatment. The young her decided to become a celebrity because she thought that was the only way, she trained hard and at last had the chance to debut in Wonder Girls, unfortunately her father passed away 3 months before he could see her debut. She faced so much criticism from people always pointing out her flaws and always telling her what to do at a young age but she had to bite her tongue and keep quite because she has to take care of her little brothers. Till today she still faces harsh criticism and every move she make is closely watch by people just waiting for her to make a little mistake to leave her hateful and degrading words. She has gone through so much, this song and video clearly depicts the struggles she had to endure from a young age and how it has already affected her. She mentioned many times how hard it is for her to share her struggles but she trust her fans enough that she had the courage to share this song and show her vulnerability. Hopefully this song can help others find comfort because she always mentioned that she hopes her songs can help people feel less lonely and find comfort.

My doctors think I have BPD, and though I still need a formal diagnosis from a specialist I do know that I have struggled with BPD symptoms my whole life. I have been listening to Wonder Girls since I was nine years old. They introduced me to kpop. I am twenty two now.

That is one of the things I love about KRplus, it just randomly suggests vids to watch and so it happen with this video of a singer I have never heard of called Sunmi. I clicked on the thumbnail and a watched a dark and sexy video pull me in as I listened to this almost raspy, memorizing voice from this young beautiful women. Sometimes all it takes is one song with words that move you, resonate within you, bring back memories of the past to realize that this someone I need to discover. Sunmi you have yourself a new fan.

Lots of comments, only a few knows that it’s her mental health she’s talking about. My mother is Borderline, and that video, lyrics and choreography explains EVERY SYMPTOM they suffer on a daily basis, even the cutting veins-suicidal part.

  • @hoedatgirl

This song is relatable as someone who also suffers from BPD. Sunmi's really brave to have opened up about her diagnosis thus giving this song a deeper meaning, which is truly inspirational.

Being vocal abt BPD is so important to end the stigma and it's so heartwarming to see Sunmi be open with her experience with it❤
