Right! At a certain point it's overkill & no longer about having variety for a full range of skin tones. Most of those shades could be very close with barely any difference between them.

As a pale person that has issues finding things with the right undertone because brands assume all pale people are pink, 100 shades sounds about right. I'm sure the same goes for people with deeper skin as well

Honestly I think the 100 shades is a great idea because itβs not only about shade but undertone matters too
I can foresee a lot of stores not being willing to carry this long-term. Having 100 shades and all the stock is really a tremendous amount of floor space, and if sold online only, the is a crap-shoot.

Toblerone Mina i agree! I can never find my shade, ever! Iβm fair to light with a very yellow undertone and I have yet to find a perfect match! Plus I love that they have so many deep shades with different undertones too β€οΈ
We definitely need more than 45 foundation range considering undertones. I think it ie EPIC that Pur is trying to hit the mark for all people from the lightest of light to deep beautiful ebony sisters. 100 shades is intimidating but needed!!!!
Absolutely! It seems really intimidating but when you go to the website & see how itβs broken down into shades & undertones it makes more sense & becomes easier. I donβt know why she was giving it such a hard time?! Ugh..these brands canβt win apparently!
MrsBungle78 she released this right when the foundation dropped and back when it came out so many people thought it was all for PR and that the shades werenβt different enough to justify having 100 i honestly donβt think she had bad intents. Iβm honestly for the larger shades since I have pretty pale skin and for some reason every brand just seems to believe that weβre all pink but I can see how at first glance this can look intimidating and hard for people that already have a tough job finding their shade in ranges of 30 or 40 colors
I don't think it's "unneccessary" to create many different foundation shades and tonalities. When you think about it and break it down, I don't think 100 shades is excessive. Consider this: Let's say a company has seven different shade "tiers" -- Fair, Light, Light-Medium, Medium, Tan, Dark, Deep. Within each shade tier, there will be different shade levels -- Fair1, Fair 2, Fair 3, Fair 4, etc. Now the undertone of each shade within each tier must be taken into account. Gone should be the days of only seeing a warm, cool, or neutral undertone. And in my opinion, the undertones of the shades in each tier are what will make or break an excellent foundation match. Having a well-rounded array of undertones to fit every shade range is what Pur did with this launch, in my opinion.... and is also the reason they ended up with a line of 100 different shades. After playing with this line, I was able to find a shade that was fair enough for me, and that leaned more warm-neutral. The shades surrounding my "perfect match" were around the same shade depth, but the actual undertones were different, thus changing the way the color appeared on my skin. For that very reason, I wholeheartedly think that 100 shades (of a well thought out, well-rounded and executed shade/tonal range) is not excessive, but something that has been needed!!

I like how their darkest is actually almost black. I have clients that aren't brown, they are black. Deep tones. & hard to match because no one has shades dark enough.

I havenβt closely looked at their shade range but 100 seems good could have 25 cool 25 warm 25 neutral and 25 olive.
Iβm very pale with olive undertones can not wear anything cool or I look like I have blush on my whole face. Often the right shade for me is cool so I have to choose a shade lighter or darker to get the tone closer and even then brands rarely have olive tones close to my shade so I settle for warm or neutral.
I'm actually excited about the 100 shade range. It's difficult for me to match the nuances of my skin tone and it becomes even harder when I try to find a "summer shade". I think this is great for people on the bookends of the skin tone spectrum as well. :)

Itβs not unnecessary to have 100 shades. It is however, unnecessary to send them to one person even if it is PR. (Yes I understand why, they want her to promote the product. Iβve just always seen it as wasteful)

Realistically PR packages are meant for makeup artists who have a range of clientele. I agree the whole set shouldn't have been sent to someone like Tati who will more than likely not be using it on anyone but herself.
Ughh. She always donate makeups she doesn't use to her family, friends or any shop that accepts it.
That's why they sent her mini bottles of all of em besides the 2 they thought would be her shade. They can't make everyone happy.

Exactly I'm fairest of the fair yet my undertone is yellow/olive. Most mega pale shades are pink. The only foundations I found is Nars Siberia and cover FX N0. I'm not kidding when I say I'm Casper

Believe it or not...even with 40 shades, I always get missed! I have a strange undertone. Tan...Not quite neutral not quite yellow. I never can find my right color...I always have to make it work with concealer and powder...itβs frustrating as hell!
In the tan range there is usually 1 neutral shade and itβs always too light or too dark. With 100 shades Iβm hopeful! And even more hopeful that itβs Tati approved!

On the website they offer a "find my match" option where you can search foundations you've used before and it tells you what shade in their brand is closest. π
Also, I don't necessarily agree with your opinion that they made too many shades. I think it's AMAZING. As a woman who "should" be able to find their perfect shade it is incredibly hard to get the right undertones for my skin. I can't imagine how frustrating it would be to be a woman of color with only a few shades to choose from and none being truly right. Yay for expanded range!

Releasing 100 shades is good marketing research, they'll be getting results with perhaps 20-30 shades which will help them narrow it down to the best-sellers. As long as the quality is consistent with each shade, it's actually brilliant. If it's not consistent quality it'll be wasted.

OMG!! This foundation is incredible! Iβve worn it all day in and out of the sweltering heat of Floridaβs summer and it looks perfect 12 hours later. Did not feel heavy, did not settle into lines and had great coverage. I put it on the Pur brush that looks like an Artiste brush and it went on flawlessly! So impressed, I am going to buy a lighter shade for brightening because it conceals so well, you do not need a concealer and itβs crease free under my eyes!!! Great π review!!

This foundation honestly looks great on E V E R Y O N E !!! From the deepest to the lightest! My only issue is the anxiety I know I would feel having to scan through 15 shades to find my own. But π PUR! Great Job!

The only thing is: are brands doing this cuz they care about your shade or because they want have more shades than other brands? Its like those ppl who help someone but put it on the internet so everyone can applaud them. The act is good but the cause is not.

your contact lens tip literally has saved my life so many times! especially when the lighting is so different from my lighting at home.
As a black girl Iβm telling you now 45 shades is not always enough... especially as so many brands think thatβs all it takes and deliver horribly on undertones. Also the number can be so uneven that darker shades have few to pick from. (Same I hear for really fair skin shades)
It doesn't happen often. But I'm always almost in shock when I'm not the lightest shade.
There are A LOT of brands I can't use because even the lightest shade is too dark.
I have odd undertones, they're neutral but flip flop between neutral-cool and neutral-warm.

YES. Iβm mainly Italian American so I have an olive undertone yet I can be really fair in the colder months. I can never find a true shade when my skin is at its lightest. But thatβs only part of the year for me and all the time for you! Hope you find some good foundation matches girl

Iβm very fair, and in most brands the lightest shade is too dark for me. And I know people with deep skin tones have a much harder time than me. So if it takes 100 shades to go far enough on both ends of the spectrum, Iβm on board.
