That IS the very-idea behind Farfetch’s design! “Duck carrying an onion” is a Japanese saying for a fool/sucker looking to die. Farfetch was always meant to be pathetic

Evolution would probably actually be a good choice for farmers, since Pokémon can level up by eating rare candy, it's description in more recent entries just says that it's "packed with energy", probably meaning it's packed with nutrients, you can assume that they level up if they gain enough nutrients by just eating simple food, meaning, they also evolve just by eating, they just probably grow faster by fighting and that's why Pokémon trainers fight with them instead of feeding them all day.
I think Pokémons are just like ducks. They can be your friend, you can use them for battles (but this one is still weird for ducks-), they can be your meal or the source of your meal.

There's one catch to that poultry answer, though: Owls are carnivorous, feeding on small mammals. That not only makes them more expensive to raise but also more difficult to eat. When measuring caloric efficiency for carnivores, you have to factor in the caloric efficiency of their prey, too. Furthermore, carnivore meat isn't as easy to digest as herbivore meat.
There are chicken Pokémon like blaziken

Something else that makes this interesting is that some pokemon offer natural byproducts such as Slowpoke's tails fall off and they don't even feel pain if the tail is removed and they just grow back, or some grass type pokemon naturally produce their own vegetables or fruit that can be harvested without harm to the pokemon.

Can I just say that milktank milk is a common item in the games, that implies that milktanks ARE commonly used to get milk
Yeah milktank probably are the best producers, but he can't test the milk production efficiency. He can only go off Pokedex entries and stats. Since their isn't a daily dairy production stat he can't theorize the economics with it.
He also only considered time to grow, but forgot another important stat - productive lifetime. Diary pokemon does not need to be fast growing, if you only need to do it once.
I love how Matt presents false info as facts.
Blatantly wrong, as he so often is, but he speaks confident, so it’s fine.
Doesnt matter that his opening-speech is dumb and ignores
that it was ACTUALLY like this:
For 7 Generations, it was always either ambigious or presented as ‚Only the Weirdos or Baddies do it’ and only Generation 8 AKA the Trash-Generation started
saying ‚Ah, yes, it’s true, Pokenon are eaten all the time by normal people’.
Gen 8 changed s-it and Matt does not understand most of the Franchises he talks about.

The issue with Mudsdale and Mudbray is that they're covered in thick layers of dried mud. Their weight isn't so much meat, but mud and dirt.
Wait you don’t eat mud!?
My thoughts exactly while dirt is edible thats not what I'm ordering medium rare at a restaurant...
I was thinking the same thing. Even if it was weight in meat it would probably be hard to eat. That weight on a relatively small animal would have such thick and dense meat. I can't imagine the texture.

Still…this was a fun and very informative vid.
Also, in the kitchen of the SS Anne, there is litterally a cook that says he's preparing beef
I think that's just some errors in the anime, well, not errors, but design choices.
The anime is not really that consistent
@Vivien Joly
Did he say where he got that beef?
YB BETTER + RATIOOOO … anyways I love this channel but i also watch Seven Hunnid on KRplus alot cuhh
Thought the same myself, but then realized we see fewer and fewer of these 'normal' animals as the series has progressed. Presumably they were there as a kind of filler for animators and directors who felt weird not having those critters around.
This hits different now.
So are we forgetting the fact that most of the pokemon listed are region exclusives? Meaning they'd only be eaten in that region, so no, Mudsdale would be eaten in either Kanto or Johto, because there are NO Mudsdale in those regions, same goes for Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, etc. Same goes for the real world as you LITERALLY SAID IN YOUR OWN VIDEO
holy cow are you the secret matpat?
Torchick nuggets 💀
Another thing he didn't take into account:
If you're not going to evolve your pokemon because leveling up your pokemon is inefficient... Why does growth rate matter? Growth rate is literally just the dictator of how fast a pokemon levels up.
Just ship it across regions bro
In each region of the native mons, very few hunting licenses are given to very humane Hunter/Trainers that are preferably of the indigenous people to the area, as they would more skillfully harness the whole animal.
"pokemon farming simulator" YES PLEASE. I have wanted to be a pokemon berry farmer literally since I ever played my first game with pokemon pearl. Make it happen. I beg you. A Pokémon Centre simulator where you heal Pokémon would be cute too 🥺
m.krplus.net/bidio/nb6hnqdjaIGXaaQ
I feel like another thing that should of been considered is the Pokemon's power and intelligence. Raising a Mudsdale for meat might not be the best idea when one of them could just earthquake the entire farm to the ground.
That's why you have a pokemon on standby ready to put it to sleep in some way.
A bot copied your comment and got 4x the amount
@@darthjc4 What I was thinking too. Or something to that effect. Like, if you live in the Pokemon universe, and farm pokemon, you're gonna find a work-around. Thing is, pokemon are clever. so farming them for their meat means breeding them to be stupid, calmer, or weaker in power lvl too. We've seen this irl - for instance, with the difference between wild untamed horses and farm-born/raised ones.
Yeah and add to the fact that elemental Pokemon probably don't taste nearly as good as normal types. Part of the reason Mudsdale is so heavy is because the Pokemon is infused with earth, and the meat is probably really rough and dense like bear meat...
True. You should eat those magikarp though. Those things are just dumb.
Palworld: Say no more fam
I can just imagine a bunch of Pokémon trainers acting like vampires breaking into the Pokémon center and trying to eat nurse joy with Brock being the only one protecting her nurse joy your secret is out
Flaw in logic: total weight does not inherently equate to how much meat one would yield. It’s very possible that the bulk of mudbray’s weight is made up of inedible components, like hooves or bones. Dense bones would be a necessity to support all that weight. That’s not even considering the caloric intake that heavy Pokémon might require too.
or what type of feed they might need.
hoot hoot likely like owls eat mainly meat like rodents
Most of Mudsdales weight is made from the hardened mud on it's legs which I'm pretty sure you couldn't eat.

@Nami--------💗 wtf??
@ALEXA,,, 👇😘 ALRIGHT-
ANYWAYS 🔫😃
The only problem I have with this video (aside from when MatPat said Garchomp and Gabite showed up on screen) is that he didn't read up on Mudbray's and Mudsdale's diet from their Pokedex entries, which mainly state that they get their nutrients from mud. The problem with this is that animals that eat mud and dirt exclusively have very poor meat, for example mudcatfish, they bottom feed off of muddy ground underwater and end up with poor tasting meat since their nutrients come from the mud. Having something with very poor tasting meat quality as your main source of red meat isn't very appealing, so alternatives would definitely be chosen for that food role.
All you do is detoxify the meat catfish even 70 lbs isn't that hard to do just water a troft and time. I use milk to de game certain wild game and Turkey kept in a salt water mix with seasoning for 3 days makes the best Turkey possible for very little work.
There are methods to making the meat more palletteable if that region has limited options then folks would likely use them

@@HaHaHaHolowence hmmmm crunchy
I feel like there are a few things that weren't considered here. For one, in the milk production Miltank is still going to be the best option. Alpha/Omega pokedex states that it can produce over 5 gallons a day. While not more than a regular dairy cow, they are much smaller at roughly 1/10 the weight.
As for eating meat, the weight doesn't equal a greater food source. For that to be true the muscle mass would scale as well, showing a larger and heavier pokemon. Mudsdale and mudbray are heavy sure, but we don't know if that's muscle, bone, or most likely straight up mud and rocks. Mudsdale and mudbray eat dirt for sustenance as well, meaning that breeding and farming them would be almost impossible, as dirt (unlike grass) doesn't just grow. Even if they are made of meat, they make it from dirt, meaning it would constantly dig out whatever land you had until it was just dead rocks. Not saying there aren't applications to this, just that in terms of food, it seems unlikely. (Also it'd probably taste rank and be incredibly tough)
And a dirt based diet probably won’t make for tasty meat.
wow.......
exactly thats what i was saying sorry i didn't read your comment first before reading others but i completely agree that matpat missed alot pokemon cuz he only looked at the animal then the genetic code of that pokemon
Also Miltank is a 100% female Pokémon compared to Skiddo which is 50/50 and therefore you need to hatch 2 Skiddo for each milkable Miltank.

I suppose these are the "best" sources and maybe I just missed it but this doesn't really take into account regional availability. Some pokemon can't be raised in large numbers in certain environments so it's highly unlikely you'd find something like a mudbray in say kanto. aside from that rarity also comes into play as hoothoot is at least far less common than a pidgy or spearow which can be found all around their region.

Barraskewda should be somewhere in there.
What I want to know is which Pokemon are technically edible, but generally aren't eaten, like dogs, cats, and horses (at least in the US). Are there Pokemon where the answer is unclear, and it depends on who you ask, like rabbits? Do Pokemon that would generally be considered carnivores eat other Pokemon?
Ugh, every answer I get about the Pokemon world spawns like twenty new ones.
We know that Pokémon eat other Pokémon, there are many Pokédex entries about Pokémon being predator and prey

Do to owls being carnivores they would cost more to raise. The best "bird" Pokémon would be Pysduck same exp. rate and only 3 pounds lighter. While duck are omnivores making feeding cheaper.
Psy?
Yeah, but then there is the difficulty in raising Psyduck on a large scale. You'd have to make sure none of them ever get a headache which means you'd either need to be pumping them full of chemicals or not factory farming them.
You'd need to invest in a proper environment for ducks though, and they poop like crazy. Not to mention what everyone else said regarding treating their headaches (or controlling them given their psychic nature). I'm not sure the cost of maintenance would be worth it?

The weight comes from the thick mud around thier legs. Yeah I also dont like that pick
I thought they were pretty much made of mud, I can’t imagine that would be a profitable business
Denser meat = more filling meal
@@GrinFlash007 would the meats texture be a literal nightmare though? meat that dense is gonna be the toughest thing you ever tried to chew through, not to mention, as others said, the reason they weigh so much is due to packed mud on their bodies
A lot of these Pokemon are region specific though, a person from Johto or Kanto, probably wouldn't be eating Mudbray. If we're talking in terms of efficiency, we need to think of regional/domestic availability as well. Which for both Kanto and Johto would be Magikarp, due to how abundant it is in those regions. For other regions it'd be something else, but again we can't ignore regional availability.
Magikarp are notorious for having next to no meat, though. They're almost all bone inside.
Goldeen on the other hand is just as plentiful across both those regions. Although they are quite small.
Fair point.
I remember an episode of the anime where meowth tried to eat one while stranded in the ocean and just broke his teeth

It's actually been confirmed by a phone call you get in HGSS that people eat berries, buddy was wondering if the berries that his Geodude was eating were good and he was right. Soulsilver and Diamond are SKIDOOed(pokemon version of GOATed)
I don't eat cereal.
But I'd certainly eat Theory O's.
Wailord would float like a balloon according to the math
It is known as the Float Whale pokemon for a reason.
In the Stadium games, it even floats in the sky while fighting.

Its partially based on a blimp
But MatPat...
What about all the arthropod based food sources? Bug types in pokemon are quite viable and often quite large as well, in addition to having both mechanically and lore-based faster growth rates than almost all equivalent strength and sized pokemon.
And bugs irl are an excellent source of protein by weight, making them potentially extremely efficient. Eat heracross!
Im pretty sure Magikarp is hands down the best option for food though, given the lore surrounding from both the anime and pokedex entries.
@@snickers2210 The season one episode of the anime titled "Pokemon: Shipwrecked" states that Magikarp is actually not a viable food source as Misty states "Magikarp is just scales and bones"
In 3:12, you used the Pokemon Cafe Remix game and I loved that game, and also do a theory on mew.
Appletun is like a caramel apple. A yummy candy apple that kids eat. And yum! Medium rare miltank for dinner!"
Matthew: Eat your pokemon!
Also Matthew: Nurse Joy is a pokemon!
I see where you're going with this...
@@samilahhoahoe5125 ok
YES. Eat your very own nurse joy.
Welcome to the world of pokemon.
Oh I'm sure plenty of people would be into eating Nurse Joy

Miltank is already fully grown, it literally comes out of its egg at its last evolution. For example Kangaskhan hatches out of its egg with a baby in its pouch. The Pokémon world just doesn’t make any sense.
Wait what!
And then what happened with baby Kangaskhan? Does it evolve into a Kangaskhan? Is this an unannounced evolution? Cubebone.
Safe to say they didn’t think everything through. We have Kangaskhan with its baby in a pouch, Cubone that apparently gets its skull from its dead parent. Breeding as an in game mechanic wasn’t introduced until Gen II, so yeah, they didn’t consider that when designing Gen I Pokémon. The closest we get is Kangaskhan’s baby coming out of its pouch for Mega Evolution and let me tell you, that Mega Kangaskhan and its baby are a freaking BEAST

MILKTANK PROVIDED MILK FOR ALL OF ALOLA
No? Miltank doesn't evolve. It's just a singular pokemon.

Aren't Celesteela and the ultra beasts legendaries?
@@megameme29 metagross isn't an UB
@@lucasdupke9746 I know that but I said only Celesteela. Basically what I meant is aren't ultrabeasts legendaries?

Well, Celesteela does weigh 2,204 pounds, and Eternamax Eternatus might weigh even more (we'll have to wait for an actual entry though since Sword / Shields entry doesn't list it's weight, but regular Eternatus does come close at 2,094 pounds)
I think this theory could be added on if you wanted to determine what each region's local diet would consist of (since each region has its own semi-unique variety of locally available pokemon).
Eggzegutor heads in Alola region
Considering how skidoo’s milk is only readily available in Kalos it makes more sense why more regions use Miltank instead, it’s more common in other regions. A good look at this if from Alola. Skidoo can’t be found in the wild and would have to be transferred from a different region which would be far more costly and too high of a risk since the people of this region are more likely to buy product which they are familiar with. Same with the Galar region, Skiddo can’t be found naturally. (they also can’t traded over but we will ignore that for now.) but you know what can be found naturally right on the isle of armor? Miltank, but the isle of armor is a more secluded place, only people with an armor pass can enter. So the our question boils back to our beginning statement.
m.krplus.net/bidio/nb6hnqdjaIGXaaQ
I would add onto this that since the first four regions are based in Japan, which is big on fish in comparison to red meat. So he probably could have looked into what water/fish Pokemon would be considered in a typical Japanese diet.
Discussing theory about how you should eat your Pokemon and Matpat showcasing their game theory on how nurse Joy is a Pokemon seems like he's hinting something.
