As a former subway employee, I actually liked most of the food. All the vegetables were fresh, and if we ran out we were often resupplied by our local grocery stores. All the meat came packaged from corporate of course but it was just as good as any other deli meat. We made the bread in the store every day. Veggie patties are surprisingly tasty. Just never get a cold cut combo, I never trusted that.

Theory: The fast food industry hires these people to sue them. Most people don't look at these companies until the media gets involved.

Honestly, cases like this I'm more likely to believe are just publicity stunts by companies themselves than actual legitimate complaints. This isn't like the 'pink goo' case where we had actual footage of McDonalds processing meat into paste to make their burgers. Ironically, that would have had more traction than something like this, yet went nowhere as far as I'm aware.
I tend to think that way too but the EU actually had some countries trying to ban Subway Sandwiches for making food with (gasp) sugar and calories in it. What’s stupid to one person buys lawyers and politicians another yacht.
But hasn’t that also been talked about and kinda dissolved? Wasn’t the pink goo just trimmings of meat, but the bigger problem was how there was the occasional dose of ammonia? Or am I misremembering it? Sorry if I am.
@@Daniel-jk6ve The EU wasn't trying to ban it. The EU was trying to TAX it. There's a lower tax rate for bread/sandwiches (they're "staple foods"). Subway uses so much sugar in its bread that it doesn't meet the definition of "bread" for tax purposes.
Keep in mind that Pringles are NOT POTATO CHIPS (for tax purposes), Jaffa Cakes are NOT BISCUITS (for tax purposes), and Marvel successfully argued that X-Men toys were NOT DOLLS (because they were not HUMANS, which meant they couldn't be "dolls" for tax purposes). It's all about taxes and not about food quality.
You were pretty much right. They probably relied on the lack of "amplifiable DNA" (meaning it's processed food) and just did it for the money. Case was dismissed in October 2021 because their claims were not specific enough or lacked evidence.

As a Jersey Mike's employee, I legitimately believe that our subs are infinitely better in almost every way except cost to Subway's, so to hear that they actually make relatively real sandwiches actually makes me feel pretty good about Jersey Mike's.

@@bbarroqueiro4035 There's a good sign. I've heard a lot of philly places wouldn't actually make the cut in Philly. I also like Jersey Mikes but don't eat there too often due cost, location, and bread (dieting). I usually get a wrap from subway (there's one in the Walmart I shop at).

The 'why are there so few olives' thing cracked me up. I used to work at a subway and the owner quite literally ORDERED every employee there to put as few as possible on the sandwhich and if anyone asked for more olives we were only allowed to put ONE more olive on the sandwhich for each time asked

I find the mislabeling of fish a true issue 😅
I'm allergic to specific types of fish and not allergic to others. Tuna is safe for me (all tuna it appears), salmon isn't. Those obviously look different but I react to most other fishes. I can't go to a store and buy "tuna" sushi without the threat of cross contamination or outright a different fish.
Also knowing so little people are allergic to fish makes me self conscious 💀

As a person who’s worked at a few subways I can voucher for other sandwich artists when I say it’s not our faults! The boss will watch you or have one of the veteran employees watch you and pull you aside if you don’t do 6 of each veggie aside from spinach and lettuce. However night shift is a little more generous with no eyes watching your every move 😄

This sounds like a really devious but plausible marketing campaign. Hire someone to sue you for something that you know isn't true then capitalize on the exposure.

i actually work at subway. trust me, even if you don't watch the video. it's fish. dried and flaked into blocks that we break apart and put half a bag of mayo into. it smells like tuna, it looks like tuna, and it (according to people who like tuna,) tastes like tuna.

I saw it as basically the other way round. Presumably the newspapers are charging Subway the going rate to take out full page ads, so couldn't the case have been devised by one or more newspapers (or newspaper groups)? I mean if advertising revenue for the paper is a bit lean then fabricate and publish an unfavourable story about a big bucks company, thus forcing them to pay for advertising in the paper to put the record straight. The filing of the court case (more or less knowing it will be thrown out anyway) would in this theory only be necessary to legitimise the original article and prevent the paper itself from being sued for publishing false information, since the first article is then only publishing the detail of the claimaint's allegations rather than publishing allegations of its own.

From what I've heard regarding the Subway tuna, it's actually tuna that's mixed with mayonnaise to make it spreadable. It's not healthy because of the mayo mixed in with it on top of whatever additional mayo you add to your sandwich. Not only that, but tuna isn't a healthy fish to be eating consecutively because of the high levels of mercury.

Subway made the campaign. It gives them free advertising, makes a mockery of real cases which could hurt them, and takes their PR scandals away from Jared and towards phony cases. It seems like a massive benefit to them and makes sense why they would rush it to the media, because free press is good, especially with their follow up advertising campaign . Just something to think about.

The only way to stop frivolous suits like these, is to allow the defendants to counter sue the plaintiff for costs and damages. Make people think very hard about whether they want to go through with this.

New theory: Subway paid actors to sue them so they can promote their Tuna Fish Sandwich and get MatPat to say that the previous lawsuits were nonsensical.
Pretty risky marketing strategy. Everyone involved could face charges. Frivolous Litigation for wasting the court's time would be just a slap on the wrist. Perjury and Fraud would be if they want to really punish them for it.

It's basically like saying you call the cops to report a crime, even though everyone involved was in on it.
Seems more likely than the fish being fake. And people doubt how much companies get away with things. Remember how long the McDonald's Monopoly scam went without being caught? Seems possible to me.
I would be interested. To know if they actually made a profit off the advertisement campagn about this lawsuit. The idea that Subway (or other big brands) paying people to sue them and go to the press as another advertisement campagn came to my mind halfway though the video.
