I literally just finished re-watching Shawshank for the umpteenth time. Never gets old. That final receding aerial shot of Red and Andy embracing on the beach as they re-unite gets me everytime. Exceptional movie - story, acting, directing. Checks all the boxes.

It was a heavy competition for best picture tat year, eventually Forrest gump won which is equally brilliant movie
Forrest Dump came out at the same time, so all the brain dead sheeple were mesmerized by the superimposed idiot in historical moments. It certainly didnt win any awards for its acting or story. "It happens".

Many performers are almost insulted if you ask them to reprise a role momentarily in an interview. Morgan Freeman was not only a good sport but he almost gives you chills reading that little parody. What a true pro.
He nailed it. Most of the time when a celebrity re-enacts a famous line they butcher it and it's nothing like when they did it in the movie. Then you're saying to yourself I wish I would have never heard it.
To go back into full character mode in seconds, is the mark of a superb actor.
A lot, if not most, of the actors who get asked to do these things won't be able to keep a straight face while doing it.
There is a clip where Tom Hanks does his accent from Forrest Gump on this show. That really blew me away.

Respect for ones craft. Respect for peers. When a man of a Michael Caine's caliber enjoys your work, it is not trivial. Even for someone like Morgan Freeman. By saying it is "nothing" is really a statement by someone who clearly hasn't earned the respect of his peers. I feel sad for people like this.

There never was and never will be a better movie than Shawshank redemption. It has it all. Brilliant story, great actors, fabulous music score, dialogues, violence, friendship, laugh and cry. I wish I could wipe out my memory and watch this movie again, not knowing how its gonna end.
The extraordinary thing for me is this was supposed to make Tim Robbins a big star and yes he did have a good career but! The Phenomenon that is Morgan Freeman is extraordinary.

He's absolutely right about audience "word of mouth". The same thing happened to The Princess Bride, which was another movie that originally flopped in theatres because of poor marketing, but when it went to video, rentals soared as folks took it home to watch it and then told others, "you should see this movie I just watched!", which is exactly how I first saw it; at the home of friends who'd rented it, loved it and wanted to share it with me. This movie, along with Shawshank, is permanently laminated in my Top Ten Movies Of All Time.
For sure, I saw 'Blade Runner' in a very empty cinema on its initial release - tanked at the box office ......

Is it me or British talk shows are far better than American ones? The questions are always more direct and compelling.
Not all of them are better but Graham easily has the best talk show and format in both countries. By having the guests on together it creates a more relaxed, chatty atmosphere for the guests. He's also willing to go a bit more 'left field' than others with questions and the atmosphere helps get a great answer.

The music in the background is called "Brooks Was Here". I think Brooks was the most tragic of all the characters in Shawshank. A friendly, gentle man who liked to read and was kind to animals. Thrown into prison as a kid....thrown out into a hostile world as an old man with no help. Ends up hanging himself.
I remember this brooks episode, more than anything else in the movie.

Amazing Film, one of my Top 3 - The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile and one from my childhood, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (The original with Gene Wilder) I have lost count of how many times I have watched each of them, but let’s just say, it’s a Lot :)
