This jam session is from 1981 recorded in Chicago. Muddy Waters was 68 by this time, and had been playing the guitar since around 1928. He was born in 1913. Mick Jagger was only 38 at this time. Sadly, Muddy Waters died just two years after this collaboration. ๐

Rock Nโ Roll is primarily a mix of rhythm and blues, and country. Itโs what led to the creation of Rock, which is an entirely different genre, basically everything 60โs and up. The stealing part in Rock historyโs is Elvis taking black Rock N Roll music and popularizing it to the general public (whites) and making all the money/fame off black musicians work. As well as Led Zeppelin straight up plagiarizing some black musiciansโ music in the 60โs-70โs. The majorly influential bands that created rock like the Beatles, Stones, and Who all gave shout outs and recognition to the black artists whoโs music they were covering. They didnโt steal anything. Being influenced by anotherโs work is not stealing and if anything should only be seen as a compliment.

Well we're ALL lucky that with the internet and things like the Apple store we can hear and see a lot of the great music from the past. I remember when a buddy of mine who was really into Reggae back in the early 80's had to order records from New York City out of a catalog. Took a few weeks to get it delivered.

It's Timeless. I'm 66 and have seen the Rolling Stones 10 times and Keith with the X-Pensive Winos 5 times. I am a Rolling Stones afficianado. In my opinion, they are The Greatest Rock & Roll Band in the History of Music. Muddy Waters was one of their guys, that they learned from, and always respected. Blues based Rock & Roll shall never die ! This video shows you how much respect Mick & Keith had for Muddy Waters, and vice versa. Whoooooooo !!!!

He has inspired many legends and Hall Of Famers like the Rolling Stones & Eric Clapton, to take up the blues' soulful influence & rock's penetrating legacy.

My mom used to swim with Muddy Waters daughter at there house in Westmont IL when she was little. She told me she remembered the Rolling Stones being there once, but she was to young to really know who they were.

Fantastic video! This brings back wonderful memories for me. I saw Muddy in a small club back in 1973. I sat right in front of the stage just like this video, only feet away from the great man. It was one of the greatest musical experiences of my life and I will never forget it. To see and hear Muddy Waters up close, to experience his extraordinary charisma and amazing talent, to feel the power of the blues being played by one of its greatest legends----- I feel a reverence no different than the Stones. All credit to the Stones for acknowledging and paying genuine respect and homage to Muddy. They broke the mold when Muddy was born, and there will never be another like him again.
Muddy had a huge influence. So many guys that saw Muddy were inspired to play Blues!!! The Mnt Rushmore of Delta Blues would have Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, and Elmore James.//////to I just re read my post and am somewhat dumbfounded that I forgot Charlie Patton. Patton was really the guy that got it going, I believe.

Rock n Roll - made by the existence of two cultures living together, with gospel music turning to blues like this, and Scottish/Irish folk music in the US coming together and instruments being used like they never had been previously.
Put this in perspective for those who may not fully appreciate the impact of Muddy Waters. Arguably the greatest Rock band of all time, braved the hassles of entering a small club which undoubtedly held many rabid fans, to listen and then play with one of their all time greatest influences. This is an amazing video.

Yeah, I noticed he was out of his element. I think he told Muddy Waters when he whispered to him to bring Keith up. Once Keith was up there, Mick Jagger seemed much more confident and relaxed. This is one of my favorite videos.

4 iconic artists in awe of each other. Mick, starting out as a shy boy coming to life when Keith joins in. Kieth never touched his cigarette just smoked it the whole time. And Ronny with the drink coming on stage. Never see such legends again being so real just jamming. Muddy was so cool the whole time
