If you did not give it directly to cancer patients/survivors, those probably go for hairstylists to make hair extensions or to wig makers.
Doesn't it have to go to wig makers first, before going to cancer survivors?@@kidobando9816

How is this not a ritual for professional violinists?
Beginner --- Average --- Expert --- HAS A BOW WITH THEIR OWN HAIR
Didnโt Paganini have really long hair?
it's like padawan training-while you learn you have to shave your head and only keep a braid but when you graduate you get to cut the hair off and make it into a bow
Rip bald violinists
Its gonna be like

Bald violinists: MASTER

Advantages of having long hair:
- It looks cool
- You can make a bow
if only my hair was 80cm
Black bow strings actually look quite cool lol
Yea it needs to be an actual thing. Dark mode of violin
@@BIackholeblack haired bow string are absolutely a thing, horses have black tails too.
@@DjDoggDad i know but i havent seen a black bow before
@@BIackholeHere's to learning!

Actually, human hair, as an alternative for horsetail is possible. Back in 2013, here in the Philippines, a hair conditioner brand "Cream Silk" tried to prove their product using human hair instead of horsetail. They sponsored an event and even hired the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra to play for their "Cream Silk Hair Sonata" event, and became the world's first [Human] Hair Symphony Orchestra.
after a bit of research I found out that Paul (the archetier in this video) was the archetier for the cream silk quartet as well, how interesting
well that's interesting and even more unexpected to see my country here. But that is really wierd though hahaha. people gon make a human farm like promised neverland. experimenting hair in lambda LOL

Yeah... me too.
I wonder whether bow with human hair would need more frequent rehair since its thinner? I feel like Ray would break all those hair in one go with his force of playing lol
But it sounds amazing.
It would be more prone to sticking on the wound strings especially on the base bar side with the heavier windings and regardless of that would wear through faster.
Ick factor... consider that horse hair comes from what is basically a fly swatter which you are rubbing on your strings.
Best!
Oh yes, it's not for Ray lol
Now imagine how these bows would look if 2Cellos used them ๐
I was literally thinking the same thing. ๐ค๐คญ
*TwoSet starts recruiting long-haired individuals for totally normal reasons.*
"I am afraid for you..."
Something you NEVER wanna hear the expert say ๐

Imagine donating your hair and finding out that it is now in a violin bow๐
I wouldn't even be mad. ๐
gotta admit, i cant help but bow down to this level of artistry. a new era is combing

Crazy video ๐
Clearly you haven't yet seen that one guy who tried to make guitar strings out of spider silk ๐
I mean it sounded very good๐๐
Not sacrilegious la, it makes good sound!
โ@@hawkins347 spider silk at least makes sense because that thing is STRONG . Human hair isn't as strong as horse hair.
LMAO ITS LIKE THE SAME WITH PRODUCER SHAUN WHERE EDDY GETS TUTORED STEP BY STEP WHILE BRETT IS OFF DOING HIS OWN MASTERPIECE
As long as I've known that bows were made of horse hair, I've wondered if you could make one with human hair. I feel like I got an answer to a life long question this morning, and the answer was yes! So satisfying...
รฐ
Bro, imagine going to a witchcraft session with human haired bows๐ญ
I was thinking the same think
Give that special bow to a child prodigy and let them play Paganini. Your target will be filled with a crippling inferiority complex and imposter syndrome ๐
No thanks.
Ray should start to grow long hair at this point. Next time he will not only have extra E string on stage, but also extra bow hair just in case lol
Archetiers are real troopers. One of my friends is one & she frequently talks about how difficult it is to make sure the required wood is being reforested and taken care of in Brazil.
I've also seen the process of hand picking out the damaged horse hair strands. My admiration and respect for archetiers has risen with this guy.
To be really honest, making bows with different hairs other than horse hair is such an interesting concept that I believe is definitely a topic that can be delve into deeper with soo much potential, I really hope you guys can try out more of these
I wonder what other animals have hair that is long enough for that? I can't think of any right away
Very interesting
Honestly, I'm now a little surprised it wasn't commonplace back then when everyone grew out their hair ๐ค probably would've been cheaper for them

Yes
this is both fascinating and sacrilegious at the same time ๐ญ
It opens a new realm of "You got played..." literally. ๐คฃ
I'm as shocked as them that this human hair bow is making a good sound ๐ฎ rosin is everything
I was surprised by the sound. Definitely would probably break a lot faster than a normal bow but Iโm surprised Iโve never heard of such a thing being done before
This seems a fake. Bad sincronization. There are some movements without a sound... This is an impression that I've got
...
โโ@@piotrz5626 I could definitely tell it's real, it could just be a reverb.
Yes, may be. I've tried with another speaker and the sound has changed. It's okay
I really appreciate Paulโs light hearted & calm teaching/demonstration style. Lovely to see.
Based off previous videos, expect Brett to be able to handle any tools and for Eddy to be a hazard. Was not disappointed. ๐๐๐
Love how they go "HuMan Hair" and pull on their skalps in the beginning.
Brett is like a elder siblings who work themselves without other help and Eddy is like a (youngest) siblings who always claps for elder but do nothing
Eddy do nothing? are you sure? go watch again. Brett is more dexterous so he had lesser help. Eddy was more nervous and fearful with the chisel part and the final attachment so he needed more help there. But Eddy still went through the whole process and completed fixing the human hair to the bow.
@@user-hz6sf2if4h I didnโt mean in that way sryy I thought Eddy was cute for being like that :((
โ@@user-hz6sf2if4hcool, now take a deep breath and realise you're overreacting to a simple comment.
Ray Chen would destroy that bow๐ It being so frail, it wouldn't last through whatever first movement he's playing. ๐
Eddy clapping for Brett is so cute!!๐โค
Imagine loving someone so much your bowstring is their hair
taking shawty being a melody literally
Utterly SACRILEGIOUS!!!
*amazing
Utterly sacrilegious way to learn how to make bows.
I find it a bit disturbing.
Mammoth hair is the next logical step. Old hair for old violins.
I'm impressed the thin hairs actually survived those little parts.
Paul is awesome!! He kept everything hands on, but was still super informative and engaging. What a great archetier to teach and guide them.
Eddy : Welcome form twoset hair washes this service is for 40 bubble teas
Me : bought the whole bubble tea shop
I love how Eddy always wants to try and learn new things despite his fears
it could be a combination of the room's echo and their skills improving, but is it just me or does it sound really smooth?
I think the thinner hair might contribute to that. But I thought the same thing. Maybe less biting on the strings?
I agree! Violin is actually not one of my favorite instruments to listen to but this sounded lovely
I am a retired equine library curator and love violin music. Iโve always been curious what differences in sound might be made depending on the breed of horse, the gender of horse, their age, and the color of the tail hair. Some horses have quite wavy hair, while others have quite straight hair. Certain horses have very coarse hair while others have fine hair. It doesnโt make sense to me that there are no differences in sound. I had neighbors who owned a music store and I asked him where tail hair was sourced for violin bows and they told me from horses sent to slaughter. Sad about that. It also means what musicians might get could be vastly different. Of course tail hair could be obtained from living horses which to me would be preferable. Before I retired I wanted to write to Itzak Perlman to ask if he would be interested in testing various horse tail hair to see what produced the best sound, but I never got my courage up enough to write to him. However I have wondered for years about all the expense and study is put into selecting superb violins but yet where is the study regarding the quality of the horse tail hair used in bows?
I remember reading that the hair used for bows usually come from horses living in very cold climate (like Siberia or Mongolia) because their hair is thicker and stronger.
Also, if I'm not mistaken, violinists, violists and cellists tend to use white hair while bassists prefer black hair, which is more coarse.
i feel like thats a great idea for a video
I have often wondered the same, because the knackeries in my city sell horse tails to people to make into false tails (for showing and sometimes dressage) but apparently they never get approached to sell them for violin bows.
(I know it's a macabre subject, but ex-racehorses get "retired" in the thousands here each year, so people have found various ways to make use of the resulting "materials" and fake tails is one of them...)
As a aspiring luthier in the USA ... Frequently we have to be a archetier aswell... Bottom grade horsehair cost 8 bucks... ๐ ๐๐ this was very ... Amusing. And for those wondering you can get horse hair in the standard white/ cream... But also in black, brown, and peppered.
My 3AM thoughts come true
Paul seems to be such a kind and humble person
Very nicely done. As a bowmaker who has haired thousands of bows, I approve.
Now make a violin out of human bones and skin
GROSSSSSSSSS!!!
Spoiler:
There is a Hannibal episode in which something like this happens.
Petition for Brett's full version of Bach's Chaconne with the human hair bow ๐
I wonder if the bow would survive all the way through since the hairs are so thin and probably break sooner. But IDK, maybe it's not an issue.
Paul is the real star of this video. Imagine being a craftsman of his level, and allowing two rank amateurs into your workshop! (no offence to the rank amateurs). Great video ๐
He is excellent teacher too. Long live Senpai Paul!!
the emotional rollercoaster i went through from > mildly creeped out at the concept of a human hair bow > terrified that eddy might lose a finger > melting into a happy puddle during the end demonstration
god i will never get tired of just hearing you guys play;-;
10/10 video !!! this felt like more of a ha ha silly video idea at the start but after everything yall have a humain hair bow now??? that's kinda really cool????
Brettโs found his calling
it's a great concept for a video because it's something we've all thought about lol
Yassss MAID BRETT!!!๐
Fascinating.... Making possible what some have speculated! A guy called Mattias, likewise wondered if he could MAKE GUITAR STRINGS FROM SPIDER WEB. He had to go to Madagascar... which spiders produce the strongest webs in the world... & milked over 1,000 spiders... local kids helped find them... to get the 6,000 metres he needed but eventually HE MADE AN E STRING STRONG ENOUGH TO BE PLAYABLE (on a smaller guitar. The first one broke when tuning)
Mattias Kranz, by any chance?

you need to comb from the end of the hair first and go upwards little by little, so you don't get stuck and don't break the hair.
