My favorite sandwich is the muffuletta. Consisting of ham, salami, provolone and jack cheese, along with tomato and olive mix. This is truly a sandwich in spirit.

Here in South Africa we have a sandwich called the Dagwood. It's my favorite. It consists of 3 toasted slices of bread with lettuce, cucumber, tomato, bacon, egg, onion, cheese and 2 beef patties.

The absolute best BLTs are from July thru Sept when I go out back to our garden to pick fresh tomatoes off the vine. Both the Cherokee purple and the Black Krim have a taste that is indescriblable... one can say they are everything a tomato should be and more.

As the late, great James Beard once said, "Too few people understand a really good sandwich." My favorite sandwiches as far as this list is concerned are the Reuben and the Club Sandwiches, respectively. I also enjoy a good BLT and Sloppy Joe sandwich. Neither which I have had in quite a while.

I used to judge restaurants by the quality of their club sandwich. It was a pretty good benchmark. A simple yet sublime choice and very easy to make poorly.

Exactly. There's so much more to watch and if they don't like this, there is so much more to enjoy. It isn't easy for me to understand why someone wouldn't enjoy this. Sandwiches are a staple, many of them being massively popular, and any foodie would love a list like this to see how high-rated their favorite yet lesser-known sandwich would be.

The Reuben originates from New York and the Cuban Sandwich originates in Tampa Florida, from an early Cuban settlement called Ybor City.
I remember my uncle and my aunt took me out for a club sandwich on my 9th birthday that thing was huge it had 9 slices of bread. had to take it home for a second bite

Nah, I'm good with PB&J at the top spot because that is every (American's) childhood. It's also probably the first food you made on your own. I call BS on leaving out the Po Boy. They readily admit you can change out the cheese in a grilled cheese, but you can't change the meat in a Po Boy? I say keep it to crawdad for the meat anyways, since it's a Louisiana food and that best represents the region.

Well one of my favorites that should have at least made the honorable mention list . Rare or Medium Rare roast beef on a French roll or baguette dipped in au jus, a dollop of horse radish and mustard to add for zest, and a cup of au jus for dipping. YUMMM! I also like open faced Danish sandwiches with salmon, tuna, or herring, or ham, pickled cucumber , radish, onion, mayo or different mustards and various herbs. There is also fried bologna and I also like liverwurst on rye with a slice of onion and mayo.

Disqualifies subs for having too many possible combinations. First entry is the ham and cheese which they say can have any combination of ham and cheese. Second entry says you can have any combination of potential breakfast items.

Most of the entries had a backstory, or a known origin. Subs are just bits of bread with "all or any of the above" stuffed into them. Delicious, yes. But hardly noteworthy.
The thing about a sub is you can literally put almost anything on it. So if subs were included, which one/ones would be included? What makes a sub a sub is the roll it is on more so than the ingredients. The ham and cheese can have different variations on those two ingredients. Breakfast sandwiches can have different variations of basic breakfast foods, namely a meat (bacon or sausage) with cheese and eggs.

I'm from Brazil and the main sandwiches here are bread with butter, bread with bologna and the ham and cheese one, where you can eat it "cold" or hot (misto quente, the best sandwich you can eat everywhere and any time).

Why doesn’t sandwich have an on arable mention
While I love the Philly Cheesesteak, the Reuben, and (lately), the Cuban, my all time favorite is the Corned Beef Special (corned beef on rye with cole slaw and Russian dressing), a Jewish deli delight which they don't even mention. Sigh!
Call me crazy, but I love bologna sandwiches. Bologna and cheese can really hit the spot. Also, bagels and lox with cream cheese.

thanksgiving sandwiches are the bomb just take everything from thanksgiving and throw it on a sandwich turkey gravy stuffing mashed potatoes some cranberry sauce (if that appeals to you) but it all comes together to make a gasmic sandwich
+Matt Ganci We used to make Christmas Quiche on Boxing day, Basically a quiche made from the left over Turkey, Pigs in Blankets, Stuffing, Brussels Scouts, Cranberry sauce and any other vegetables. Made it one year as a different to Turkey sandwiches. Never thought to try it in a Sandwich LOL

I knew PBJ would be number one! Frankly, I grew up on PBJ sandwiches. For healthier sandwiches, try Turkey Reuben, chicken Philly Cheesesteak subs, and BLT with uncured turkey bacon.

I like to think I invented the peanut butter, dill pickle, and cheddar cheese sandwich when I was a teenager, but I hear others discovered it too. Mine is white bread, smooth peanut butter, garlic dill (Strubbs are best) and old cheddar thin-sliced from a block, not watery cheese pre- sliced. Variations include rye, grainy, or bread of choice, crunchy peanut butter, and lettuce and bacon too. Interesting, because flavours are all savoury. Try if you haven't already. Pardon the spelling, I'm Canadian! J
