That is literally what a strong person is in my opinion. Even if someone does something horrible you still have the compassion to not take vengeance back on said person. I know it's horrible and many people I'm sure would do it without hesitation condemning them to death or whatever that's going to happen to them.

Absolutely, and I know it didn't mention it in the video but it was also revealed that the killer, Mark Duane Edward's, has a mental disability with an IQ under 75. I'm curious if this helped influence his decision at all or if it was solely based on the man being a father. Either way, he shows an incredible amount of compassion to not only be able to forgive him, but to argue for his salvation as well.

He truly is a better person than most. I wouldn't be able to be so forgiving.

I remember shortly after it happened and Meg went on her channel to announce she was pulling back from it and RT stopped announcing if Gavin was going to be at events.

I always remember how not long before that event, Meg talked about how she was having her dog stay with another family member because the dog was happier there; I’m glad the dog wasn’t a factor in that situation

It's sad because I remember times when some of AH would joke about how private of a person Gavin is, but then this happened and I'm sure they all not only understood but took steps towards being more private themselves.

tbh, i had no idea he was 12 until he said it near the end. in my mind it was a grown man dealing with this up until that point, dunno if i missed it or if that is the first time its said but crap, i have kid and i honestly couldnt imagine, i paused the video to come find a comment about him. and yeah what an absolute unit, no one deserves that let alone a kid.

Recently Amouranth was talking on the H3 podcast about her fear of her (someday/future) child being snatched/targeted because she’s an influencer.. i can’t imagine having that added fear that extends from yourself to your child’s safety once you have one just because a lot of people follow you on social media :(

He was spot on about needing to be proficient in hand-to-hand combat. His reaction - to go for the shotgun - was a dangerous move but paid off because no one expects someone to walk towards a gun. His strength and ability saved their lives.

Same. I especially was moved his story and his compassion. His decision to get the person who stole his families lives off death row, can be so compassionate and healing. I’m so glad he was able to do that, and it worked out.

I felt sick when he showed the scars on his neck. At least we can take comfort in knowing there are people in this world who will save us, like those wonderful wonderful first responders.

I know! When you watch something like this in a show you can tell yourself it's just a show, they edited it; they faked it; it's not real. But this isn't a show. It's insane and terrifying.

That's sort of why one of my friends hates "think of the children" when people want more gun control. He was Security Forces in the Air Force, so he's thinking about the people it didn't work out for. The people that did just give up the money that can be easily replaced and were still executed. Situations like RJ's. You never know how far that criminal is actually willing to go.

I was looking for this comment. It feels almost impossible that he got out of that house under his own steam with two stabs wounds and a gunshot to the head ffs.
That is some incredible physical and mental strength- before you even get to the mental strength to move forward in life!

Who was looking out for him? His whole family got murdered and he almost got killed. People act as if that was an act of god, an act of god would've been if he didn't get his whole family killed in the first place

Kinda strange this “someone” allowed all that to happen but draws the line at him dying. Like the multiple homicides, child murder, torture, and arson are all fine but killing a second child is when it becomes too much.

You'd be surprised how frequently this happens. I had a situation recently where I needed an individual that was watching houses on my street to leave. It was the first time I've called the cops in my life, and because the individual knew I was calling the cops, they called the cops on me. I know quite a few people that have had the same thing happen, they call the police and when the police show up, it's because the person called the police on them.

Like how fucked up do people gotta be to be that entitled???

Honestly same here. I've watched Rooster Teeth since 2003. When I saw about what happened to Gavin, I freaked out and tried to make sure he was okay, Meg was okay, and their cats were too. When I saw they had hid and were okay, I about cried tears of joy because I was so thankful. I really hate that he went through this, but I'm glad that not only it didn't stop him, but he's out here speaking about it to help uplift other victims. He's truly incredibly strong.

I was scared we were gonna have another Christina Grimmie situation when I first saw the headline. Thankfully, he and Meg were okay and the only person the attacker hurt was himself. But the scariest part to me was just how dedicated the attacker was. He wrote 1,000 notes worth of stuff about Gavin and Meg. Then he drove 11 hours to do this plan. It's insane. It almost doesn't sound real.

I think his story is a little different than "well it's just because he's internet famous" obviously it puts more attention on him whether in good or bad ways, seeing that his attacker had everything planned and written out to the point he drove across multiple states just to track and kill him for no other reason than just wanting to cause harm really shows that anyone can be a victim at anytime. There are so many cold blooded murder cases out there that have no motive what so ever, people are just fucking insane sometimes.

Lot of people have messed up minds because of messed up lives, due to other messed up people around them, or messed up living conditions, or maybe it's self caused, or a combination of everything.

I absolutely agree. Though hopefully stories like his are spread much more. Stories of people who’ve forgiven the people who’ve taken everything from them, forgiving, is super powerful. The Norwegian justice system is much more compassionate, and has far less recidivism. It can be incredibly healing and far better for society. Such is the case of how victims and survivors of Anders Breivik have often dealt with him, and had more ability to heal and understand that some people are just horrible monsters but most aren’t. Most criminals commit crimes out of desperation, and poverty. That’s clear from RJs story.

@@daphnedherbert The Anders Breivik attacks made me admire Norway and Norwegians even more than I already did. I love your country & remember feeling helpless as news kept coming in. Your country was determined to recover and move on. Breivik will never be released and that is right. Families of those who died were unified in their determination to carry on. Survivors received great therapy. I've been back to visit and the country doesn't carry it's scars for all to see. I'm against the death penalty. There is no evidence that it solves or prevents crimes. In fact, there are some US studies that show criminals are more likely to murder victims to lessen the chance of being captured.

I can never imagine how it would be to go through all that trauma and I wouldn't expect someone after that to show compassion. I've been a fan of Meg since Sourcefed many many years ago and I still watch her streams when I can and every once in a while she'll mention how therapy is going or about being triggered and still having bad days and you can tell it's affecting them both greatly still. Like, how do you get past the fact that someone wanted to and tried to kill you just because you existed and did what you loved to do?

@@evalynn1863 it is so heartbreaking. during a recent extra life, i remember meg made a tweet about how she was logging off for a while and taking a break from conversation surrounding the stream because of the paintballs. people were joking about how michael and gavin were getting obliterated/killed by the paintballs and, while it was all in good fun in a greater context, she was talking about how basically any commentary surrounding gavin dying, being killed, being shot (even with paint) was becoming increasingly triggering for her PTSD and as the bit kept going for stream, it was getting too overwhelming.
i can’t imagine how hard it is for either of them to be in a situation where they logically know that they are safe, that it’s a gag for a silly charity stream they are a part of, and to still be so triggered into fight or flight mode due to the trauma. ik that i’ll likely never know them personally nor will they know me, but i think about them a lot bcs of this and hope that they’re doing okay.

@@theyganona absolutely. I know our stories and journeys are completely different but I feel like I have a sliver of insight into how horrible it can get. I was almost killed by a medical professional that gave me a high dose of a medication I'm allergic to and then held me down when I tried to get up to get help. Completely different situation but my heart stopped and I almost didn't survive it. And then ironically a few months ago Meg talked about having Chiari malformation, which I also have, and I know how debilitating the anxiety was for me from my PTSD before I had surgery to relieve some of the pressure. Like, I couldn't leave my house for years kind of bad. Complete different context but if she's going through even a fraction of what I did, it's an absolute nightmare some days. I wish nothing but the best for both of them, the seem like genuinely decent people who did not deserve this.

Looking back, you could tell that he was pretty shook up for a while. I remember that RT/AH stopped saying whether or not he was going to be at public events. For example, he wasn't announced for panels at that years RTX or any AH Live events for a good while. I remember Meg also announced on her KRplus channel that she would be posting rarely if at all.

You would expect someone to take time off for recovery and therapy after that, but Gavin was back at work the next day. It was concerning, forgive me if my concern is "weird"

Yeah people underestimate the power of a good shot to the balls. If you hit them hard enough, they will almost immediately collapse and unable to do anything. It depends on the situation though.

Tbf your dad wasn’t wrong, bc there’s not much point getting super anxious over things that have 0.00001% of happening. You may as well live in constant fear of being struck by lightning too, yknow? So yes, of course be aware of potential dangers, but don’t let fear of freak tragedies rule your life.

The best way to deal with those types of anxieties is to be prepared. That might be the best thing to teach children, so they won't be so worried. (Like teaching them what to do if there's an earthquake, flood, break-in, etc)

Yes it can happen out of nowhere but that's why you equip yourself with ways to defend yourself take classes and learn to fight back. Dont live in fear and anxiety live prepared for the worst but living for the best

Just think about it for any moment. The entire thing happens on like less than a minute. And there was still a possibility of her losing her life getting involved.

My house was broken into when I was home alone at 16 and yeah I still haven't recovered. I was the only one in my family to experience it and it's been over a year but they still leave me home alone every week. it's just panic all night.

Yes. It is awful. I could not do anything that would hinder my hearing bc I needed to hear everything! I didn’t take a shower home alone for a lonnnngg time. Home invasion is one of the worst feelings
