To the comment saying iu got popular internationally because of jungkook, that's simply not true. Iu has been popular outside Korea for years. Armys, especially the loud american ones just happened to discover her because of jungkook and the collab with suga and can't shut up since, making it seem like that's the reason she's popular. She's a 2nd gen icon, and she's still extremely popular now. A whole queen.
She was not that popular for the international fandom sorry . Everybody knows IU , but it is wrong to say she has a strong popularity for the oldest K-pop fans. Her popularity for the international fandom has a Big evolution since 2017/ 2018, with the newbies K-pop fans who had discovered K-pop because of BTS and the jungkook trend started like that. If you read the oldest bbi-bbi comments, people spammed A LOT things about Jungkook. It was hysterical. I listen K-pop since 2009 and believe me, iu never has that Big impact for the international K-pop communauty.

Jonghyun even made a song for her called A Gloomy Clock and he evens sings on that song and for Sulli, she wrote a song for her called Peach and even appeared in the drama Hotel de Luna because IU herself ask her to do the role. Itโs so sad that she and all of us lost them.

Honestly kind of happy she didnโt get picked up by one of those bigger entertainment companies. All of us who have been listening to kpop for a while know she most likely wouldโve been put in a group. She probably wouldnโt have had as much say in her songs & career and Iโve seen many a neglected idol under those big companies that are always pumping the newest hottest talents. Instead she has this amazing team, who loves her and who she loves. Her persistence though is really amazing I couldnโt imagine facing 20 rejections & pushing forward. Really enjoyed listening to Palette & hearing how she made peace with herself. Pisses me off though that love scandals still are a thing in the kpop industry. I just watched her drama "My Mister" about 2 years ago. The plot tells the story of a poor girl who lives in poverty with high debt. IU playing the character on that drama looks so real. I can even tell that she's not playing a role, she's trying to tell people "I was living in this property and no body trying to save me. I'm a survivor, my own savior" โคโค
Only the bravest, most compassionate soul can go through such a difficult childhood and still have the willpower to change their world and love in such a way that IU does. The reason why she has these skills is because of her tenacity to keep going after so much hardship because that heart is so pure it just wants to find a place to express itself and bring out the best in people. I'm so moved knowing that other people like this exist and have never given up and continuously grow this never-ending motivation to make a difference because her Grandmother showed her how much that kindness can affect everything, down to the core. IU is definitely one hell of an icon in the K-pop industry. I've only heard about the Palette song which she released and Strawberry Moon which is pretty great as well. I hope IU continues to ascend. I love IU because our family had experienced the same thing she did, we were kind of well off but suddenly went bankrupt and my sister and I had to lived with our relatives who sometimes shunned us and we really had nothing and just about last year after our bankruptcy worsened things began to change just then and I heard IUโs story and I saw her and her talent and just fell in love with her with all her humble personality and lovely nature๐ฅฐ๐ฅฐ๐ฅฐ

Not in that way after she has been scammed, to me IU's grandma is already become the most meaningful and valuable person in her life since the first day IU and her brother stayed with her grandma. I totally understand how how it feel , when my grandma passed away I was so blank , empty, and even have a thought of commit suicide cause somehow the only light that shines in your life is nowhere to be find but luckily I tried my other best to find another reason to be alive , I truly appreciated how IU went through all of those not only in childhood but she has to experienced her best friends dead one by one.

I lost my grandma too after she took care of me for years when my mom was working out of town.... The worst part was that the last time I saw her we had a small argument and left without a proper goodbye... I wasn't able to live normally for about a year, even failed in school... Still unable to live properly because ever since that time I find it even harder to socialize... But I'm very grateful for the time spent with her and that she later on appeared in my dream where we had a nice talk and said goodbye properly... I finally could let her go and move on with my life... Now I have my mom and my boyfriend keeping me here no matter how sad and useless I feel so I don't have to worry about doing something to myself anymore

Actually, I became UAENA because of her story and her personality of being matured and strong to go through all of these. My story is quite similar to her, but only the thing is that me and my family still couldn't overcome the poverty yet no matter how hard we tried. Along those years whenever I felt so down, I encouraged myself by watching IU, by listening to her interviews and her songs; especially her lyrics. She would never know that she saved my life so many times. I really appreciate this girl for being so strong and matured.

When you dont have it you have to fight extra hard and annihilate all the obstacles, when you have too much of it you have to know where to use it and know to use it to improve the world and others around you. you can have good and evil on both ends of the money spectrum.

Agreed. 'Money doesn't buy happiness', in my opinion, is said only by at least average wealthy people and youngsters who have money to cover their basics needs, because anyone who struggled financially knows that money plays a huge role in finding and keeping that happiness.
When you have to pay rent, bills, bring food on the table, provide for your family/children basic human needs, cover medical bills, school supplies etc, the struggle and lack of money can destroy one mentally and even drive people to do the unthinkable just to escape from all the burdens in life.
Yes, money alone doesn't guarantee happiness because happines itself depends on multiple things in life, but it sure is way better then a monthly struggle where you have to sleep stomach empty for the day just to afford something else or so that someone else in the family fills theirs.

My first impression of her was in Hotel del Luna. One of the best dramas I have ever seen and much of this is because of IU.
Since then I tried to know more about her and found out what an exceptional woman she is.
Not only a good singer and actress, not only an outstanding beautiful girl....she has also a heart of gold and that makes her much more attravtive than anything else.

please correct me if i'm wrong, but i think she's not lost to it is because she has pretty good support system. she have her grandma, family and her team whom must be like a family because of how long the team stick together with her. not to mention the amount of hate she got is almost kind of the same as the amount of love she got. so she's a special case. while many others who lost to it barely had any support system. because even after their death their own family or close relative is usually still after their fortune which then show you how they got no support system at all which make them lost to suicide because it is beyond difficult and tbh almost impossible to survive when you had nothing to support you. but that doesn't mean iu is not strong because she is. i just don't think it's fair to say that her case is the same as the others who lost to suicide
