7:52. I don't doubt you remember this happening since memory is dumb sometimes and doesn't work the way you want it, but Pokémon you caught yourself can't disobey you. A Pokémon will disobey only if they're traded. The games don't make this distinction when describing how the badges function, though, so they make it seem like "Hey this Pokémon will never listen 'cause you suck! Get more badges!" Again, I don't doubt you remember this happening, memories tend to be weird. I swear I remember seeing an IV checker in Leaf Green despite several websites (and my own searching) saying otherwise. I just want to make a note of this as it's a common misconception, and misinformation is something I don't want spread, especially with one of my favorite franchises.

One the best parts of having a sibling ( and being too young to care about the internet) was going to their room and asking them to help you get past this part. They easily beat it and asked if needed more help or tips.

I just found your channel and I love all the background anime nods and them seeming in character. Like little Bakugo on top of the slide bragging, and Edward and Elric just chilling.

I started playing the series at Red, but Pokemon Platinum is my favorite. I just love the Sinnoh region and so many of the little features the game had. Turtwig will likely always be my #1 favorite starter.

I love how the overall theme of this is “Touch Grass” and “Stole some kids Lunch Money”

I remember for me it was Soul Silver as my first pokemon game. It has to be the one game I'll forever love, and how I gotten my Seadra to lvl 100 just to try and get a Kingdra. I never learned how to get a Kingdra in that game, but Seadra will forever live in my heart.

I can imagine how nostalgic the eterna forest theme is for you, I’ve had many similar experiences with platinum where I’d get stuck at certain point for months multiple times throughout the game but I actually liked it

As a long time pokemon fan who's favorite region is Sinnoh, I relate to this. My first ever game was Pokemon Blue, but I got a ds when I was 9 and went totally nuts with gen 4. Glad you had fun!

As someone who absolutely adores Illy's channel, it makes me so happy when I hear about you having similar life experiences to mine. Pokemon Diamond and Pearl were also my first games and what got me into the pokemon series. I also, chose Chimchar, I also, had a Luxray on my team.

Just stumbled on this video but man this is a really cute art style and I really like the video, you’re right though pokemon is so charming because as with any game you should be able to enjoy it anyway you can ❤️ as a kid I loved just trying to get cool tough Pokémon to hit things hard but now I love all the defensive moves and trying different Pokémon and finding new favourites and loving ones I’ve always loved, I just love the battles so much but it’s great when you play with a friend 🙂

One of my favorite Pokémon memories is the first time I saw skyarrow bridge in Pokémon Black. I was at a friend’s house sleeping over and I was in awe of this incredible bridge

My first game was platnium and I vividly remember that that as a kid for a whole month I did not know you had to save your game. So for a month I kept getting mad that I jad restart the entire game everytime I turned it off

There isn’t really a “best Pokémon game” because it’s just the emotion you felt while playing it.

I had a super over-leveled Lapras from my copy’s previous owner, who would not listen to me in battle, but when I tried to putting him in the beauty Contests, he didn’t disobey. Naturally, I assumed he just liked that more and kept giving him Poffins to boost his effectiveness in them and stopping by Hearthome during my Gym Quest just so Lapras could take on the Contests in between battles.

I am now a newer generation kid, and I’m playing the modern version of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond, my first Pokémon switch game! It’s super enjoyable and when I saw there was an older version I freaked out! I saw so many story times about this game and I watched them all! Loved this journey!

I played Pokemon shield, after years of playing Pokemon the expected way. My first game was Pokémon Sapphire and it’s my favourite to this day. With Sceptile being my favourite starter and Kyoger and Rayquaza being my favourite legendaries!
I played Red and Yellow too because my brother was a Gen 1 kid. I liked them as well. I stopped caring after Pokémon White but I do still like the new designs they come out with

Your story reminded me when I played Emerald for the first time and got stuck. You see.... I thought the bike path was a bloody wall so I did HOURS of laps around the other towns before I was all, waaaaaait cause I noticed grass on the other side or something. Yeah, you could go under the bike path and I didn't even try pushing against it. That was such a time sink

I kind of feel for Illy. When I got my first Pokemon game for the Nintendo DS, i just did what ever the hell i wanted and, in the end, never finished the game. To this day my file is still not done. 😂😂😂

I played pokemon platinum, and i also got stuck one time. It was at the part where you are supposed to bring that lucky charm to Cynthia's grandmother. Well, i decided: "my pokemon are still too weak to fight all those trainers on this route." And started to level them up. Turns out: i forgot what the actual mission was and it took me a pretty long time to figure it out.

Also yeah, there are two play styles to Pokemon, the "EV whatever special breeding only using Pokemon that are strong against this type of Pokemon" type, and the "I leveled an Abra up to 99 and taught it dark ball because Abras are cute and this one just cleared the elite 4" type.

GirlI loved Chimchar, and Diamond, too. That's honestly my most fav/nostalgic game. I wish I had a working ds so I could play it again...I/m pretty sure I have the game card tucked away somewhere.

I see trainers as a good way to level up if I need it later (especially in Pokemon violet where you just have to talk to them to battle which I find very helpful for level grinding)

I’ll never forget my Shinx with the ability Rivalry. I traded her to HeartGold to take on Whitney’s Miltank. Rivalry makes the attack stat do more damage to Pokémon of the same gender

Same thing happened to me playing Pokemon Blue. I got stuck in celadon cave for over a month because I didn't read the text about the move flash.
I also got stuck in the silph Co building for like a year because I was too impatient to keep up with where I was porting. My pokemon was so over leveled that I completed the game in one sitting after coming back to silph Co after beating Yellow and figuring out what to do.

Boy, does this bring back memories. When I was a kid and playing Pokémon Leaf Green on the Gameboy Advance, I only ever leveled up my starter Pokémon which, at the time, I didn't realize was detrimental to my journey.
