- What people commonly describe as a “British accent” is actually called “received pronunciation”. Regardless of the way people call it, you can definitely master this accent in less than 10 minutes.

(1) Don’t pronounce every written R
This is a MUST! Some languages and accents do pronounce every written "r", but not standard British English. If a written "r" is followed by a spoken vowel sound, say the R, and if it doesn’t, then DON’T say it.
(2) Touch the teeTH.
There are two fricative TH sounds in English: voiceless /θ/ and voiced /ð/. In GB English they are both made with the tongue touching behind the teeth, but in some accents they’re replaced with /f/ and /v/.
(3) Pronounce U in with the “ew” or “you” sound
In a British accent, a liquid “u” sound, as said in the word you, is used in places where an American accent would pronounce “oo.”
(4) Always stress the vowels
It should always be the vowel sounds that are stressed in British pronunciation. Putting stress on the vowel sounds essentially means emphasising it, and most speakers do that with a change of pitch or tone.
(5) Observe that "h" is not always pronounced
The "h" is pronounced in the word "herb," in contrast erb. However, in many British accents, the "h" at the beginning of a word is often omitted, such as in many Northern accents and the Cockney accent.
(6) Practice those vowels
The hardest vowel sounds for Americans to nail are the short ‘o’ as in ‘not’ and the long ‘aw’ as in ‘naughty’. For ‘not’, ‘shot’, etc. practice them as ‘nut’ and ‘shut’ then round the lips over that short vowel.
(7) Use British slang
British slang and American slang are very different. Be careful as some terms can have drastically different meanings depending on which side of the pond you are!

Wow! You are lucky to learn RP in school. My teachers at school teach us pronunciation a mix of British and American but we use Brit vocabulary in our country. They pronounce 'student' as 'stoodent' but new as 'new' without yod-dropping but surprisingly dictionaries I can find at book stores feature RP.
I from Russia too, and at school our teachers teach us a British accent but I like American accent more than British. I realized that sometimes I mix them up... but I try to improve my accent. This video was very helpful for me 🥺

Your way of talking , smiling and most important explaining is one of the thing which I like most in this world.
I am from Liverpool, so have a scouse accent. I have been to America 3 times and hardly any American I spoke to thought I was English. I got asked if I was Scottish, Irish, Australian and even German 😂. Some were really shocked when I said I was English, because I didn't speak like a member of the Royal Family. A recent study showed that only 2% of people in Britain speak with received pronunciation, but a lot of American's seem to think we all speak like that! Probably because that's how Hollywood and American TV always portray us English.
The Beatles accents

A lovely girl teaches English to us.😍
I love the way of telling information to us
I forget what the term for this is, but it's very common - I noticed that when you (the video creator) said the word "vowel", you pronounce the V differently (Russian accent), but a bit later, when you are talking about the "th" sound, you have no problem pronouncing "V". I'm not criticizing you, I'm just pointing it out because it is very common, and interesting how this happens. I think it happens with many other sounds too, where a person can pronounce a sound in a certain word, but not others, depending on the context. Thank You, great video! Your English is excellent, as well as all of your accents.

Me too. But come on she puts most of us to shame. She’s amazing at English. I can only say about 10 Russian words and I probably don’t pronounce them correctly.
Only thing she doesn’t seem to understand is that although a lot of these alternatives are grammatically correct, they just aren’t generally used in English or they sound wrong even though they aren’t.
I love both British and American accent. But I found American accent easy to adopt. British is formal and I love it too!!! I sometimes mix them but I understand every person speaking in British or American!!
