FILM DESCRIPTION:
John Hughes wrote and directed this quintessential 1980s high school drama featuring the hottest young stars of the decade. Trapped in a day-long Saturday detention in a prison-like school library are Claire, the princess (Molly Ringwald); Andrew, the jock (Emilio Estevez); John, the criminal (Judd Nelson); Brian, the brain (Anthony Michael Hall); and Allison, the basket case (Ally Sheedy). These five strangers begin the day with nothing in common, each bound to his/her place in the high school caste system. Yet the students bond together when faced with the villainous principal (Paul Gleason), and they realize that they have more in common than they may think, including a contempt for adult society. "When you grow up, your heart dies," Allison proclaims in one of the film's many scenes of soul-searching, and, judging from the adults depicted in the film, the teen audience may very well agree. I assume Allison screamed “Ha” because Claire was complaining about how her parents don’t care about her but use her as a means to hurt each other. Allison did say her parents ignored her, so she laughed because Claire shouldn’t be complaining because the parent use her in some way while Allison got nothing.
I'm pretty sure it was just because she enjoyed seeing the snotty rich girl getting some comeuppance.

Brian is definitely my favorite character, the most reasonable, level headed, and understanding. And he's pretty cute.
Neither did Andy or Bender. They went back to their respective cliques.
Bender and Brian are my favorites, I think that's why they both look a lot like me, Brian my nerd side, and Bender my explosive side, but more importantly, is that in this movie, it's that every person has a side that combines With each character, we even have a crazy side like Allison.

They are exaggerated characters, of course no one normal looks very much like any of them, and since they are characters the five completes one person, each character "nullifies" the other, if you look like Bender and Brian, of course That there is no way to be both intensely, unless it is bipolar.

You can see that the kids that ended up paired up as couples at the end of the movie already show interest in each other here. When Allison says "HA!", Claire tells her to shut up and Andrew goes to her defense by agreeing with her. Then John comes in immediately and tells Andrew off after belittling Claire.
Yeah! And when you watch it over again you notice all of that.

If Bender wasn't in detention that day all of them would learn nothing about themselves... he opened their eyes to their own prejudices... but I think in a subtle way he liked being around them cuz they listened to him and at home no one did... he'd make a good youth counsellor 👍
In a way they look to him as a leader later on in the film (makes sense since Judd did wield the Matrix of Leadership and lead the Autobots to victory)
It sounds so obvious but when you think about it, the bully is just as likable as the rest, he's the thing that connects the characters and he mostly drives the story

Bender is my favorite character in this movie. Beneath the hoody persona, he is actually an articulate, thoughtful, and insightful guy. Although a lot of the time he doesn't use the traits in a positive manner. But deep down, he is a typical teen who just wants to be accepted.
+bluecatky No doubt you'd bring out all those good qualities and "change" him, maybe even tame the savage beast. He'd probably end up just loving you and only you.

This is one of those very rare times where I love them all so much that I don't have a favorite.
Bender is the mirror for them to see themselves, through all the BS they've layered on themselves. He strips them down and removes the guise for them to see clearly insude. Most of us are inauthentic - even to ourselves. But Bender cant deal with solving his own issues of insecurity though. He'd make a superb psychologist.
I always liked how Andy would be so quick to defend the others, Claire and Brian from Bender, and Allison from Claire.
I love when Bender asks Andrew if he gets along with his own parents. Kinda like he's sticking up for Claire and it's hot as hell

I’d say that counts. She was responding to Claire’s complaining about her home life and how her parents use her to get back at each other, while in her mind, she’s thinking, “At least you’re getting attention.” Andy liked that (remember his little smile?), because he knew what she was talking about, and said, “You’re just feeling sorry for yourself.”

Pulling out a knife doesn't make you tough. It doesn't make you a better fighter. The fact that John had to pull one out just proves who would have won in a fair fight. Andrew is a wrestler. And he's varsity, going for a scholarship. Andrew trains and works out and everything. John is just giving off the tough-guy image. Without the knife, Andrew would tie him in a knot. (No worries though, Bender, you're still my favorite character)

After the makeup, andrew doesn't say to her "you look pretty" or " you're beutiful now" or anything like that. He says "I can see your face", that scene symbolises her showing who she really was, she oppening up, the clothes that she uses were on her bag, on the scene where she drops everything on the couch
