@@valhallakombi7239 A HUGE majority of the time, a crappy adaptation is a result of terrible deadlines and workloads that are decided by the higher ups. The animators are simply left to deal with those decisions and take the blame for the product's quality.

It's like that in all of Japan. There's a reason why call it "black" companies when it comes to screwing and harassing their workers. You think it's bad in the US, it's even worse in Japan and a lot of workers don't even speak up. They afraid for their job if they speak up. Since they can't fire you without cause they do this with a lot of older workers where they essentially send them to an isolated place where they stare at wall or do repetitive tasks that has no meaning to the company so that you quit and don't get unemployment benefits.

Sad thing is, it's tough for manga artists too. I see some people saying "just read the manga, it's better anyway" but manga artist have it just as bad sometimes. The only difference is that they may choose to work from home and hire assistants to help with things like background imaging or other things. They also have a LOT of pressure to get their manga out at a certain time and make sure it's good and as an artist myself, it's awful drawing for hours in a set position for so long. I remember watching an interview for a manga artist and he barely even got to see his wife and kids. He even had to buy his own separate place for work smh. Much respect to them
Edit: also, I know they choose to make a manga themselves but they are still under a lot of pressure due to intake from fans and companies often rushing them to finish at a certain time. I've seen people say that companies like shounen jump are getting better as far as giving them more breaks so that's good. I hope the same can happen for animators one day
And then you have Togashi, who basically decided to drop the assistant numbers as low as possible and covertly told Shonnen Jump to fuck off. We don't get HxH but we got an author with a lot self-respect who works at human pace.
I mean like bruh, its your livelihood. You get to decide what you wanna do. You wanna make millions like demon slayer or one piece? Go slave away in weekly serializations. However, dont take it up on the publishers when its their sole job to put out regular content.
Which is why mangas are shifting to monthly schedules which allow a lot more break time for mangakas.
Jump has been taking precautions recently after the deal with Togashi and the creator of World Trigger (Ashihara). They literally force Oda to take a break at least a week in a month.
Respect as an artist myself, but I wouldn’t let it take over my time with family.

A lot people are probably thinking the gun part is just an exaggerated joke. I think it’s a metaphor. Meaning, you get back to work, or you will not only be fired but blacklisted from working in the manga industry (are there even any other manga studios beside shonen ?)
So once blacklisted, good luck trying to feed your family.

And Japan isn’t completely like America, where you can just up and go into another career field and be just as successful. Especially if you are older.
