My mom had absolutely no problem with pokemon, but she did not let me watch spongebob because she thought it was a bad example... but I mean it was spongebob so I still ended up seeing it fairly often because everybody watches it. Honestly, though, I agreed with her: spongebob struck me as a complete and total immature, vulgar brat and I hated the show. I hated it so much that one time when in elementary our substitute teacher was just left a spongebob movie to show us.
