I did have the thought that, if the other characters from their games competed, sonic's world kinda has an advantage. Not missing in combat with the rabids guns does help but off the top of my head, at least Shadow and Eggman are versed in using guns.

I feel like Mario would win for town planning because he has proven to be a master at building things.
Not necessarily because in Mario maker it’s the player not Mario that makes the levels.
However he did work in construction which could give him some kind of architectural background you’d need in a town building competition

So I know I am REAAALY late to this one, but I just wanted to point out that Mario has a longer history of guns than we all thought. I think it was on the Super Nintendo (Don't quote me on that) but there was a Mario title that used an accessory to the console that was shaped like a gun. In the game you play as Mario riding on yoshi and he arms himself with a BAZOOKA, and he just goes on to shoot up anyone in his path. Now handling a bazooka and normal guns is a little different obviously, but if we are looking at just experience with guns, Mario has much more experience and would probably be the winner of this event.

While that was probably more analogous to a bazooka (if I remember correctly, Mario's in-game firearm was meant to closely resemble the Super Scope itself), it's good to see this one mentioned.
I dunno, I feel like that should be a point for Mario, two pieces of secondary canon where he capably handles firearms, not to mention literal fire from his arms - fireballs, hammers, and boomerangs may not all directly translate to ability to use a pistol, but they should certainly speak to the coordination using one relies on. Sonic... well, okay, he's got tertiary canon, but really when does he ever demonstrate a fraction of the ability in games that he has in the comics? You'd be on the loading screen, hit start, and the credits and ending would roll.
Also Mario Party 2. At the end, Mario and Bowser shoot one and another. They both hit their target

At 2:18 when Sonic's canon speed is shown as 767 mph, that equates to a little bit above 12 miles per minute so it would actually take more than 2 minutes for sonic to complete the marathon, not the 1/10th of a second claimed in this video

Solo Synchronized Swimming isn't strange as people think. Multiple synchronized swimming teams, including ones I'm familiar with such as the Sunrise Swans, always have solos as at least one of their routines, though it's usually two. It follows the same rules as group routines, where you do a choreographed swim routine to music, and it is, in fact, based on choreography and how the swimmer was in time with the music.

Solo synchronized swimming actually isn’t as weird as it sounds. In marital arts, solo competitions where you create your own set of moves…typically is done to music where timing is everything. So swimming in sync with the music is pretty much the same kind of thing when you think about it. 🤷♀️

Sonic has more experience with guns because he shoots while he’s in the air which is very hard to master plus Mario only shoots while standing which is still hard but easy to learn and his bullets (lasers) are like 4 inches high and wide which means it’s literally hard to miss
Game Theories videos are masterpieces. At the beginning there is a skit, then a rundown of the contents of the episode along with some witty banter, and then thoroughly looks into any geeky topic on earth. And always finishes with detailed closing thoughts, and I’m usually laughing by the end. Thank you Game Theory for making me smile.
I mean dualing is arguably a speed-based sport as well, since they competed to hit targets in tandem. Remember when you duel someone, it doesn't matter how accurate you can be if the other person can shoot you first.
It does if your shot is insignificant and theirs is instantly lethal. If I empty a 50 round drum clip into your body but fail to hit anything major, I've wasted 50 bullets and probably opened myself up to give you time for that perfect head or heart shot (one bullet, fatal).
@@griffenmage 1900's means one shot dualing pistols, and lead bullets are pretty much fatel anywhere they hit. At leas t long term.
Plus, I'm not sure of the rules for the Olympics, I've looked, but first wound could mark the end of the dual. (Though again, rules for shooting each other varied, generally picked by the "offended" party. So... no help there with ruling.)

7:15 The irony is that a sailing competition would have fewer issues with wind than a power boat.
A sailboat has a number of forward sail options to make use of the wind and create friction. They also have a central keel around which the boat can pivot. The hull is designed to exert sideways force against the water to convert the wind's pressure on the sails into forward motion.
A power boat has no bow propulsion (think maneuvering thrusters) to control the bow position, and no central pivot. No matter how hard your rudder or how strong your engine, there's nothing to keep the bow from being blown around. The bottom of a powerboat is designed for minimal contact with the water with a flatter hull and lighter bow. The weight is aft to keep the props in the water as much as possible. That's why power boats "catch air" and sailboats do not. It's catastrophic for your sailboat keel to come out of the water. Powerboats do it as a matter of course. (because racing, course, ? I kill me!)

The fact of Town Planning being former Olympic sport is very comical. Also, how do you judge how well a town is planned, since there are many different ideologies of how a town should be planned. Guess I’ll find out in a few weeks
It was one of the art competitions, under the umbrella of architecture. All the competitions had the theme of 'sport', but I don't know the exact way they were judged.

Since I didn't see anyone else mention this: your math at 2:20 is quite wrong, if that is the speed you are using then it takes sonic a bit over 2 minutes to run a marathon, not less than 1/10 of a second. You may have divided and ended up with 0.034 but that number is in hours, not seconds.

Use a little common sense Koopa the quick is not Mach one Marios and the Koopas leg movements weren’t that fast sonic on the other hand they use a red figure eight below him to symbolize his fast running speed. Mario is just running around like at normal person’s speed

But its not about reaction time, in dueling you’re hitting a stationary target, its more about your form and aim rather than locking on. Even if sonic has higher reaction speeds, using a gun takes practice to perfect aim. I think Mario should have won that since in Mario Party 2 on the western map for the N64, Mario literally duels the other characters
Mario actually has experience with pistol duelling specifically. It's a mini game in Mario Party 2. Soooo, I'd be inclined to say he would win this one.
I'm really happy that matpat is talking about motorsports. It is a very underrated sport that I love.
Although he said bigger engine always = faster. When NASCAR's V8s are some of the slowest modern racing engines. V6 Turbos are smaller, but much, much faster.
But still, Matpat talking about motorsports is cool.
This could be a great series. Sorta like "death battle" but with old and obscure Olympic events
