QBs are not always paid based on talent, most franchise QBs get paid market value which increases every season.

It’s all about when you get paid and how much salary cap is open and what team are willing to pay, it’s not really about who’s the best QB. Like russel willson is #1 paid in the league. Best in the league? Ehhh. And some other really good QBs are on rookie deals, in about 1-2 years they will be getting more then Dak ( Watson, Jackson, Mahomes) it’s all about at a certain time.

@@joelprieto8526 oh it's a team sport? There's a reason why QBs get paid so much. They are responsible for the wins and losses. Along with the coaches. We aren't holding the outside line backers responsible when they lose. They also only get paid 1/5 of what the QBs get paid.
If you want to get paid $30-40 mil a year. You need to show that you're a force multiplier. He's had a great RB, good enough WRs and great protection. Along with decent defenses his entire tenure at Dallas.
What we see is when any piece of that is not perfectly placed, he has sub par years.
It doesn't matter if he throws for x amount of yards. Especially if the majority is done during garbage time.
He shrinks in big moments. He has only won 1 playoff game. He didn't even make the playoffs last year.

40 mil for 4 years I think, the issue was that the cowboys wanted a 5 year contract instead. (cos mahomes and co are going to make that qb salary sky rocket when they get their contracts)

What you proposed Andrew Luck should have done isn’t new and it is in fact allowed, whoever advised you otherwise doesn’t know what they are talking about. Brady did that for years with the Patriots and it was a big reason they were able to remain competitive for so long.
As a Raiders fan, I am rooting for Mahomes to get that $200 million contract! First of all, he's absolutely worth it. Mahomes is incredible. But, second, and most importantly, it'd be nice if he fleeced the KC Chiefs and made 'em make some tough roster choices.

At his current salary is Dak underpaid? Yes. Is he worth more than $31 mil. No. If he is worth more that $31 mil then (as a Chiefs fan) Mahomes would definitely break the bank with his MVP and Super Bowl win. QBs are very important but their salary can really hamstring a team - that's why I am glad the Chief got their Super Bowl now.

As a Cowboys fan, I would have rather they went with Dalton (which probably a slight downgrade at QB) and put Dak's $30M+ in the the defense (SS, Jamal Adams trade and pay and either DE's Everson Griffin or Clowney).
It’s hard to invest all your money in one position in a sport with a hard cap and there’s 51 other guys you have to pay too. If the QB won every game then Rodgers would have more than one SB. Especially at that price you’re losing out on other key players. You can’t pay Dak,Lawrence,Zek,and Cooper all that money then trade for Adams and pay him what he wants. You’ll have a 5 man team taking up your whole cap.

Cowboys would be crazy to pay this man what he wants. Stafford, Goff, Wilson, Cousins, Ryan, Carr, Brissette. Dak is an awesome .500 QB that is on a very team-friendly deal. Pay him 30x what he made last year and you will lose players. They will not make playoffs this year.

Too many people are not mentioning that if the cowboys signed Dak they would open up sufficient cap space to sign Jamal Adams. I’d sign Dak any day if that meant I’d get to have one of the league’s premier safeties - especially since that is - in my opinion as a die hard cowboys fan - the biggest position of need on the entire roster (I like the Clinton-Dix signing but I’m worried how much prime football he has left to play). Point being: Dak + contract = Jamal Adams. Sounds like a no brained to me
If he doesn't sign a long term deal by the deadline his future with the Cowboys is all but over. If he wants a four year contract this year what would be the point of signing a four or five year deal next year? The best case scenario if he doesn't sign by the 15th would be to have his best year and his contract offer goes up slightly. But if he puts out a sub par year or even the same (missing the playoffs) it would either stay the same or dramatically go down.
