At the same time though I absoluted LOVED the whole concept with Behind The Myth. I don't think it was a good fit for a Total War game now that Warhammer exist, but goddamn if the setting and concept isn't cool as hell.

should have been this way from the very beginning, the "truth behind the myth" was just down right terrible choice for the game; everyone wanted a age of mythology style game, the trojan war its a fantastical tale where gods appear personally on the battlefield;
CA going: "centaurs? just guys on horses" "minotaur? cyclops? just big guys wearing animal skulls!" was a bucket of cold water to most people hype.

So, this is confirmed 100% to be actually monsters in the game?

i think they planned it this way all along ... give you the behind the myth free from epic games, now that its coming to steam, they had to have something BIG to entice new players and it was this

On that note, they should add Hades as a god to worship at some point. :)

Well, he’s job is to make sure the souls in hades domain don’t go back to being mortals… if he is killing them fast enough and right after they revive… technically he’s still doing his job, just protecting the gate from the other side of it

Judging by seeing actual centaurs and cyclopes in the paintings, it wouldn't surprise me. Probably they'll do something like Romance and Records modes in Three Kingdoms.

There are real cyclops and centaurs in this trailer, so they will probably change up all the existing mythical units.

I just looked at the page for the DLC, and it has images of harpies and centaurs, so it looks like they are changing them all! 😁

Personally I prefer the historicised myths approach. I don’t want my historical title becoming Warhammer by another name

On the FAQ page it states that all the mythical units will be actual monsters in the mythos mode.

If you look at certain scenes you can see some of them, including the centaurs.

Just stop calling them reskins already. They're not just color pallete changes. These have different models. They most likely share the same skeletons, but calling it a reskin is just not right.

You got it wrong. "A Total War Saga" games like Troy are the ones that get build cheaper, and reusing resources from other games. If anything, the Hydra and Gryphs from the Warhammer titles are probably going to be the ones we see on Troy.

To be fair, a Total War with Greek gods as factions sounds like an amazing idea.

It's only right because Troy is SET in a mythological setting. Now they're finally doing the actual Illiad justice.

@@fartz3808 while i like the dlc illiad didn't have a lot of monsters.gods and demigods sure,but the only monster i remember is the one that attacks o Trojan that says that they should trust the greeks and worries that the Trojan horse is a trap

@@fartz3808 yeah um, this stuff isn't in the Iliad. Not saying it's a bad idea, but if you want to make a game authentic to the Iliad, having Hector ride Cerberus is, well, not.

@@fartz3808 Finally someone who understands this. Troy was always part of our mythology lessons actually. Just because it did not have monsters when the game was released, it did not mean they wouldn't come later.

@@legendaryziggs this DLC is kinda a rework of a dissapointing "feature", where they tried to make a full historic game with monsters "that make sense" so the minotaur was just a dude wearing a bulls skull, cyclops was a dude wearing elephant skull, centaours where just normal horse riders and so on.... now they relized that if you want to have monstsrs in your game you actually have to make monsters

The more imprortant question - how much is the price ?
Cause they said Sagas was a 30 Dollar franchise, but the Epic Deal wich gifted you Troy on release day made it 60 bucks after that.
Now im getting kinda hyped for troy, but the pricetag is gonna be important to me.

Truth behind the Myth is, by definition, historical, it's just an excuse on the part of the developers to be lazy.
Than they should've just made a Bronze Age Total War and completely drop the Troy part, since the Trojan Wars, yes there were multiple, didn't happen the way it did in the Iliad.
Quit complaining about not getting another historical only game, even with this trailer, and the upcoming Warhammer 3, that's still only four fantasy based titles in a game series that's mostly historical. Why are historical fans so whiney?

Because they think, that the last good historical title was Attila from 2015? For me, Warhammer TW, for example, is a perfect Total War game, but it is also due to the fact that I have been collecting/playing tabletop (Empire, Skaven, Tombkings) for good 20 years. Other friends of mine, for example, see the fantasy elements rather skeptically and fear the "worst" for the historical games. I would actually prefer a separation between historical and fantasy games. Let's wait and see when the new historic game is announced and which route it takes.

Yep! Sure, the storyline and the leaders are clearly fictional (we don't have historical Mycenaean king names lists), but the Bronze Age setting in the game is based on historical facts (factions like Mycenaeans or Lyrians, artdesign, military units, architecture, etc). The fact that the Mycenaeans expanded militarily around 1200 BC (Crete and Asia Minor) also reflects the game indirectly. At that time I had simply hoped from Troy TW that CA would only take the name in order to have a strong PR "draft horse" for a Bronze Age TW.

Well the Hydra looks like it's completely different than the Warhammer version (no legs for one). The Griffin will probably be more or less the same though.

Of course you don't mind, CA wants to condition their audience to keep buying recycled animations and models for years

Even if they make a medieval 3 then it will be a giant Joan of ark or a Richard lionheart breathing fire. Let’s be honest, CA’s “history department” has died and it isn’t coming back for a long time. Their arcady magic games with clear cut counters and abilities give them more money than history games

I'm waiting for a Mythology series. Lord of The Rings series, Warhammer 40k, Dungeons and Dragons... Anything but more BORING historical.

To be fair, GW’s warhammer took all their ideas from mythology and other IPs. GW isn’t exactly known for their originality.

I think a future title would be a Medieval 3 with proper crenelations in castles and double gates and such(heavy siege focus rework)
and after that WW1 and then almost immediately later WW2, and then that could be followed by Warhammer 40k(which would require a new engine if you're going to have the entire galaxy map with nebulas or clusters you can click on and then solar systems and then planets.

@@TimDutch I think it's the natural course to take because otherwise as of right now they've run out of eras that we haven't already covered, even the theoretical "pike and shot" one has been covered within Medieval 2 late game and mods. I mean, there really isn't anything else (unless they want us to fight as African tribes with spear and shields in Subsahara: Total War lol)

@@BringDHouseDown it would be epic to have a ww1/ww2 game in a total war setting but then the whole system of how the game works would need to be overhauled. In ww1 and ww2 you had permanent frontlines, in the total war games you only have an army that can manouvre but not create static lines.

Yeah sad to see. Total war in general has now become a much more Arcady genre of games. All of the clear cut counters, abilities and spells don’t feel anything like the historical games

@@jubjub7673 This is really sad, It was my favourite series, I really loved the sieges before warhammer and the real history in the games. Maybe I will find some replacement- Knights of Honor 2 of Steel Division 2, but man I would do anything for a new good total war game.

You know they have 2 Teams by producing total war games. One Team for historical and one team for fantasy. So they can satisfied the historical and the fantasy player at once.

They're adding a historical only mode that changes single entity units and stuff as well to make it more realistic. Literally 3 different modes depending on the level of realism or myth you want.

Except for the unit appearances, what the nations are fighting for, the geography, naval combat, or pretty much anything else.
But yes, there is a game mode where regular humans are fighting regularly humans.

Eh, only the 3 'Great' Mythic units, the Learnan Hydra, the Griffon Patriarch and Cerberus.
Other more 'mundane' myth units like Cyclops and Centaurs will probbaly remain unchanged, and yes, they also get model updates for the Mythology mode.

@@FiendMatadorSlayerOfNoobs yeah that’s why it’s so great, there’s only 3, in a Greek world that’s supposed to be what reality was like, so if you find them, that will feel so great and powerful like as if you just proven mythical creatures do exist haha, like there wouldn’t be lots of them around like in warhammer which is great because it would make them special haha
