Tbh, it's terrible in general... do the writers think black people are only capable of being good people when they're held back (in this case by "Z watches") and that they are inherently violent?? I mean, duuuude... don't make the oppressed party into literal monsters...
I love how he guessed that Addison is tiny bit Zombie, but the truth is it takes two other movies to find out she's actually half Alien, which is so much more stupid than the part Zombie idea.
Quarter technically, but yeah
@@rosied7082which is so stupid, she is no where close to being an alien but nooo because she’s the special one (sorry this just pissed me off so much, but I genuinely love these movies)

She’s part werewolf too or something, right?
@sneakymcbadguy5121 she thought she was, but she actually never was. The entire second movie is about how she thought she was actually a werewolf but isn't at all.

Danny’s thing about him wanting Zed to eat her at the end of the movie for the Romeo and Juliet thing could’ve actually been a good ending. Zed loses control after his Z Band breaks and he snaps and eats her and when he discovers what he’s done he kills himself out of guilt. I feel like that would’ve made the movie better. There’s a really great show called In the Flesh (that only got to run for two seasons rip) about the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse where the zombies have been “cured” but they have to have to take medication consistently or they’ll revert back to their mindless state. There’s a lot of tension from people who don’t want them back because they ate people, they have to wear contact lenses and makeup to blend in, and a lot of the zombies have ptsd from the entire experience. It’s very interesting. Also it’s not treated as a one-to-one allegory, but in the places where it’s analogous to anything it’s about being queer rather than racism. So the premise can be done. Just not like this 😅
That sounds like a brilliant show!
Eliza is actually such a confusing character bc she’s always like “humans are terrible and they hate us for no reason!!” And it’s like… idk if it’s for NO reason, Eliza. You have to wear government issued technology on your body at all times to keep you from cannibalizing your classmates

it's so weird when kids movies try to make allegories for racism where the "races" are different species because they almost always make segregation seem like the reasonable option, and it has some very Unfortunate implications
@@jasperjazzieya it’s a racism allegory where the racism is like pretty justifiable. Like a totally reasonable and probably ideal compromise when one of the species potentially eats the other is…. Separate but equal.
So…. Ya…
The whole Z band thing kind of reminds me of what the animated film "Zootopia" was originally going to be like, where all the predators wore collars to control them. And Disney tossed that part of the story out since it was going to be problematic.......
I’m really glad Danny highlighted how the racism analogy fundamentally does not work. The same issue applies to most racism allegories in fiction because the stand in for minorities is always mutants, aliens, etc, but that comparison will always fall short because in the real world minorities literally have zero differences beyond superficial aesthetics. Even if the zombies never ate people the allegory still doesn’t work because they are still on some level physiologically different to humans in a way ie black people to white people aren’t
It's similar to why zootopia doesn't work, both zombies and predators were a threat + have the opportunity to continue to be a threat, the prey/humans have genuine reasons to be afraid of them, racism doesn't work like that idk why directors are convinced it makes sense
Same way as when Rowling claimed werewolves were an allegory for HIV/AIDS. Like what?? Ppl with HIV do not go around attacking others (including children) to give it to them ☠️☠️
comparing minorities to hostile creatures comes off as very racist. idk what these directors are thinking.
I think a stand in works fine provided it isn't inherently harmful. By it's very nature an allegory is never going to be an exact match.
@@horrordyke to me the way I make sense of it is that with kids movies, as is what most of these movies are, Racism is a very heavy topic and while it is important to teach kids about these issues you need to do it in a way that won't traumatize them, like there's a reason movies like the OG Disney's Pinoccho aren't being made anymore and it's also easier to explain to kids who is who by giving each side defining characteristics that set them apart, there are definitely better ways to do this than Z-O-M-B-I-E-S or any other movie who use genuinely dangerous characters as the oppressed people but there's also a fine line between explaining heavy topics and getting sued

update: in a shocking turn of events, the supposed blonde wig is the actresses' real hair while the character's real hair is the shitty white wig which is for sure a contender for the worst wig in cinematic history.
True. Looks like plastic.
Also as the movies go on her white hair gets progressively less white and turns platinum blonde. But sure Addison, go off about how hard you have it because your hair is more blonde than normal.
Also that she's deeply insecure about it, but she choses a wig, which can fall off at any time, instead of dyeing her hair. Although apparently hair dye doesn't exist in this world because no zombie dyes their hair black.
edit: Y'all can stop commenting in the lore she can't dye it, I understand.
EXACTLY
@@aldranzam3456 in the movie she said dye didn't work on her hair
Guys I think we owe Danny an apology. After countless videos none of us have answered “what is up, Greg” Well Danny, nothing much how about you

Never realized how strange this one was, only watched it once
Addison gives me “hey Barbie” vibes
Never saw the (worse) sequel
Do zombies grow old? Are they decomposing slowly? Do they stink? Do they keep the same personality they had when they were alive? Also, can they reproduce?? Or is the zomby population juste growing and growing as people die?
I like how Danny doesn't think random fence movers are probably just a bald zombie
🤣🤣🤣
Bald Zombies are likely better at looking human than their fellows
They even show a bald zombie in the power plant scene and Danny put it in

One of my biggest fears as a writer is making something so bad it ends up in a Danny Gonzalez's video
Nah you need that danny bump for exposure
honestly me too
Honestly I would love to have Danny make a video of a bad movie I made so I can make better movies lol
Good incentive 😈
that's all our fears
that wig moment was almost as iconic as roxy in drag race
i am so mad that they didnt just make addison albino. she was "born" with white hair THAT IS LITERALLY ALBINISM. "doctors cant explain it" ITS JUST ALBINISM!!! they couldve gotten an albino actress as well! and we couldve explored the struggles addison faces with being albino!! but NOOOO
I’ve never even seen albino actors, that could’ve been so cool.
this movie says as much about our society as that one pepsi commercial where kendall jenner takes a break from a photoshoot to save a street protest... by handing one of the crowd control officers a can of pepsi 💀

Within Reason. You don't want mythical creatures that eat people, so avoid using Werewolves in the movie.

Did nobody at Disney think about the implications of a school being desegregated only because the opressed group appeared to be athletically gifted
Another instance of this movie accidentally being a good allegory through it's own ignorance
They almost had something with the idea that the school is using the threat of revoking the zombies' rights on the preformance of one teenage boy. The Z-band hacking works out as an intresting allegory for performance inhancing drugs.
Zed started taking them, because being exceptional at football is the only way he can maintain a position of influence so he can get his people rights.
Others express concern for his health as the Z-band starts taking a toll and giving him worrying side effects, but he persists because if he doesn't it's back to the bacement for everyone.
The situation draws the attention to the terrible behavior of the adult humans in power, and could've been a better approach for the movie than the fraught analogy of zombies as black people.
not the meta-allegory 😭😭😭😭
"Did nobody at Disney think?" No the answer is no. The only thing going through their heads is money.😂
I would like to point out that Disney and Disney Channel have different writers and people in charge. Disney once made a movie about Ruby Bridges that was very accurate to the real story, and didn't skimp on showing the scary parts with all those people threatening her life every day she went to school. I remember watching it for my history class, and it's pretty good.
Disney Channel, however, is basically allowed to make anything they want; since it's just cheap, made for tv content. That's why these movies are either ok at best, or just plain weird and awful at worst. So long as it doesn't break any censors or something. They also just use tv show writers, who made this concept to bank off the success of the Descendants franchise. (Another Disney Channel movie series that's even worse than this one; because it uses official characters from the real Disney movies, and royally screws up every single one of their characters in horrific ways.)
I love how its a metaphor for racism talking about how they cant control their violence, so they need bands to stop their violence. Not at all playing on racist stereotypes
I love how he says “I thought they would be fast or strong or scary or something but they are SLOW” then he just says “just leave” the best advice ever
My grandmother is black and was born in 1945. I remember her talking to me about how desegregation musical practices were super time consuming and had to be perfect. There were many a song sung by both sides on the first day of school. She still had her dancing shoes from those days. They recorded it too, so it could forever be remembered in history as the desegregation musical.
You must be so proud!
