    you should be polishing with compound instead of waxing at this stage to remove the marring from the magic eraser. Then add wax for the final step for protection.

    Would you need to redo this process after a car wash or would this last?

    • @fixitwithdad8524
      @fixitwithdad8524  4 년 전 +3

      the removal of the paint lasts. You do need to wax it a bit afterwards as the WD40 and the magic eraser will dull the paint, probably taking the wax off too. But once the paint is gone, and the area is thoroughly cleaned and waxed, the upkeep is just like the rest of the car. Paint won't come back
      Good luck!

    Thanks for the video. Would this technique be safer than rubbing compound?

    • @fixitwithdad8524
      @fixitwithdad8524  4 년 전 +1

      Hard to say for sure. I think it depends on how rough a rubbing compound you go with. If you were using rubbing compound with a buffer I would say it is a little safer since you could burn through the paint with the buffer...where with this method it is by hand.
      I usually do a few passes and try not to rub too hard. Either way, you need to thoroughly clean the WD-40 off before the wax

      Honestly, I would try this before I did spray paint. Paint is most likely not going to match , especially if there is clearcoat on top of the paint.

    • @fixitwithdad8524

      In my opinion the benefit of doing it this way is you actually get the paint transfer off the car before you try to use rubbing compound or anything like that. This way you're not grinding that paint into the car's paint first you're removing it and then just cleaning up the little bit of swirl marks

    I used Mother's Brazilian Carnauba cleaner and wax and a clean microfiber rag after I washed the area first. Follow the directions. Minimal elbow grease and the paint transfer was gone in sbout 6 minutes with a beautiful shine-just like new. I would not use a magic abrasive, stinky WD 40 or anything else that could possibly damage your paint finish. It makes sense to use a product made for cleaning the surface of a car, after all! It cost me less than $20 at NAPA. Leave the WD 40 for stuck on pipes.

    this cant be real, i scratech my bmw 520d that i worked 5 years to save for and all my life wanted to have because of some stupid nightmare parking lot curve that is impossible to fit if you have a little bit bigger car.... and now i can only imagine is 200 or 300 to fix with luck so for me this is magic . cant believe some wd40 will work and already read in another video that with rain the wd40 will clear and it will show again the scratches

    • @fixitwithdad8524
      @fixitwithdad8524  4 년 전 +3

      I can't speak to the other video, but I have never had the scratch come back after it rains.
      I have done this a few times on this very vehicle in the video. You do have to get all the paint off or else I could see it coming back if the WD40 was just covering the paint. I have had to do the process a few times in a row to get all the paint off, and as I said in the video, you need to buff afterwards as the paint will be dull. I would test on a small area first . Please let me know if you have any questions.

    • @fixitwithdad8524
      @fixitwithdad8524  3 년 전 +2

      Also...please remember...this doesn't remove a scratch ...just the paint causing the scuff. If there is a scratch in the paint from whatever hit the car, that will still be there after this process. If it is a very light/not deep scratch, perhaps some paint correction could be done to buff/compound out the light scratch, but a deep one isn't going to come out. hope this helps

  • @gerdz101
    @gerdz101 7 개월 전

    good temporary solution but as soon as the wd40 evaporates the scratches will begin to show. The wd40 filled up the cracks and scratches that's why is looks like it was gone.
