It seems like something you might have tried already... But have you manually put the roof up and tried to put it down electronically? That might give you a better insight to the fail point. I'm sure you would have tried this already but thought it might be worth saying just in case.

    • @AllanWorks

I agree the system might not be able to figure out what position it is in. by putting it in the fully closed or open position then resetting the system it might fix itself. i had the same issue on a mustang.

    • @AllanWorks
      @AllanWorks 5 년 전 +2

@Kris Nicholson it makes sense what you said. I thought he said he replaced the sensors that's why I thought that putting up the top and resetting the system might fix it. there is still a possibility the top has to be in a certain position for the system to recognize it and correct itself.

@Kris Nicholson might be worth him sharing what options he has on that software, you're right about the switch, not sure how far he has got voltage testing each connector from the ecu to each sensor would be interesting to see. To me it sounds like a mismatch hence the roof doesn't know the position. Also isn't that roof a two step process? This maybe totally unrelated but could it be a timing issue.. Some thoughts. Lifts and long-term projects in the back, drivers or completed projects near the doors. You don't want to have to drive past the mess of a project to park a running car. Install a large compressor and put it outside in a cage (unless you want to listen to it all day), then run metal airlines at about 40" from the ground all the way around the interior. Gives you access to compressed air everywhere without having to string a bunch of rubber hoses together. Might as well run electrical right next to the air lines with a couple outlets for each bay plus a lots of real extension cords. Put a large wash basin outside the bathroom. Get an industrial parts washer, you'll be glad you did just working on hooves burntmobile. If you are going to be doing any kind of painting you might as well build the box now. Put some racks on the back wall for parts and supplies. Invest in purple power to clean the floors. Get a couple 2 post lifts for working on the cars and a couple 4 post lifts for stacking and storing. How about a car rotisserie in the front so that when you're done you can spin the cars around (ok, that was too much). Put 4 or 5 security cameras inside and enough outside to get picturs of people coming and going. Then put the storage/controller somewhere up high, connected to a battery backup, where people won't be able to come and just steal that too if they make it inside.

Damn good advice. Might want to also add something to curtain-off a car in a special space so as to not get dust or metal shavings or whatever else can become airborne and then damage other cars. Maybe, make that curtain frame portable? Oh, make sure you have enough electrical power coming into the building... you'll need it. And, add A/C and maybe something on a cool day if it would ever get to below 50deg F down there. And, floor drains to a sealed catch basin outside where you can have it pumped out by someone who picks up waste liquids from cars. And, lots of lights overhead and portable on cords.

My suggestion for the Ferrari. Ditch the interior, ditch the trim, ditch the top, try to salvage the engine, roll cage that crispy piece of Italian engineering, put in some nice race seats and safety equipment (how about a good FIA approved fire suppression system) and go to the track. Seeing a mighty italian V8 screaming down a track might bring a smile to the face and a few thousand views on YT. Cheers from Brazil by the way.

The first set of tools you didn't recognize is punches and chisels. You put the small bit on whatever you what to hammer, maybe like a set pin or something, and hammer the back end. There's also a center punch for marking holes to drill, give the tip of the drill bit a little bit of direction. I think we probably all know what chisels are, they're used for cutting, bending, and removal of material. The second set you didn't recognize I think is an adjustable spanner set, like you use to adjust coilovers. But I'm not as familiar with those.

A small advice for the shop is put the compressor in a sound insulated closet or cabinet, that thing will rumble every hour at least, its nice to not hear it loudly. Also make sure you have enough workbenches and space around them, also make sure you have enough space around the lifts.

As far as the dream garage goes:
    1) Better lighting including dedicated task lights.
    2) Shop air with a 2 or 3-stage (quiet) oiled compressor- trust me, stay far away from oiless if you value your hearing...plumbed in with retractable hose reels.
    3) Please finish the concrete floor!!! Like immediately before you spill anything on it. I have an epoxy paint coat on mine, and while I like it and it's held up fine for 6 years now, if I had to do it over I'd put an epoxy clear coat with a tiny bit of sand texture over that...it makes cleaning spills up so much easier and keeps things much cleaner when you can mop or spray it out with a hose. There are lots of great products out there for this and you applying it would make a great DIY video.
    4) Welding table with a welding outlet, bench vise and a press.
    5) Overhead loft area for storage.
    6) Work benches, cabinets, and shelving...storage, storage and more storage to keep your workspaces clean and uncluttered.
    7) A dedicated laydown area with space for laying out bumpers, panels, interiors, wheels, etc and a dedicated bench or table for the small parts.
    8) A dedicated bay for detailing. This should have a tiled floor area and tiled walls, floor drains or drain trough plumbed to either your existing drains or to a French drain outside. Plumbing for hose bibs with a water filter / softener and filtered shop air, dedicated cabinet and cart for cleaning / detailing products, tools and supplies. Really bright task lighting here to work with. This area could also double as a paint booth area if you hang up plastic sheeting.
    9) Heavy duty steel security doors with hinges and deadbolts so strong a battering ram can't break them, a monitored security system with video surveillance with cameras so good that you could also use for them to help you make videos, and a mean, nasty Rottweiler with rabies to patrol the shop when you're not there.
    10) Really good heating, cooling and ventilation.
    11) Shop tunes!

17:48 That's a punch set. The cylinder ended ones are good especially for knocking broken things out of holes, hammering very small precise locations, typically used in conjuction with a regular hammer to get the job done. And the sharp-tipped ones are for making indentations in metal, maybe to start a drill hole, or provide a point of pivot for whatever reason. These tools come in handy sometimes. Oh and the flat headed ones are good for things like shaving off a layer of material, like paint on metal, or some other foreign material that can be chipped off with force. All of those tools are used with a hammer.

Edit: besides my own I've built a couple shops and hung out at alot of shops. One thing I've learned from all the old timers over the years is..... you want to put 2 post lifts at an angle on the corners of the shops so you dont create a dead space and you can walk all the way around the car or you can throw an alignment machine in a corner as you dont need much space around it. Theres so much you can do with a 70x70 my heads going crazy with ideas right now. I'm happy for you dude

Also you end up get more tools so I would check out Harbor freight US General tool boxes and a service cart. They are darn good for what you get. Also your kit did not have Carbondale deep sockets. Again Harbor freight Pittsburgh sockets. I have one by them and works great.

Says he'll get to the Ferrari by the end if the year but he has 3 projects before it. And the Lambo has been 8 months.

When you're looking for an air compressor, look into screw type instead of piston type ones. they are a LOT quieter so you won't have to worry about it coming on while filming with that classic WHUMPWHUMPWHUMP. they just wind up and whirr quietly, and you could build an enclosure around it and not even know it's there. In auto class we had one and never knew if it was on or off without checking the lights, and my shop just upgraded to one after the heat this summer killed the old thumper, and it sounds like the shop is jumping to warp when it spool up (but it's a 40 hp monster with about 750 gallons of capacity).

I think that those things you couldn't figure out the name of are called punches. You hold the pointy end onto a metal bar and hit the other side with a hammer, and it makes a pilot hole that you can drill into or screw something into without having it slip off. I'm not 100% sure if that's their actual purpose, but that's my guess because I've used punches like that before. Thanks!
