Actually have two squirrel stories for you. The first happened over the Christmas Holidays 1996-1997. In January 1997, the sewer/septic system started to back up in my home in Georgia, USA. Called a service company to come out, and it turns out that a squirrel had either been depressed because of the holiday season, or owed a lot of nuts to the squirrel mafia, because he made his way down the vent pipe for the waste system, and died and got stuck in the inlet to the septic tank. Quite expensive to have fixed.
The next holiday season, my wife, who is a teacher, had received tons of Snickers minis from her students (she teaches orchestra, so I'm talking ALOT of Snickers). We would usually travel to North Carolina and West Virginia to visit our folks with the grandchildren over the holidays, returning on New Years Eve.
When we got home, the lady who cleans our house was still there waiting for us. Turns out three squirrels had come down the chimney, and jumped up and down on the damper until it opened, and entered the house. Squirrels like Snickers. We had hairy chocolate footprints on all the windows (we think they were taunting their friends), they went upstairs and ate a tube of toothpaste to prevent tooth decay, and shredded some towels to make a nice nest.
We spent days cleaning up the house. Turns out it could have been much worse, as rodent/vermin damage is not covered by insurance.

Omg, this happened to me recently! A squirrel was scratching in my wall for days. My landlord cut a hole in the wall and pulled out a baby squirrel! 1 day later, the sounds start again. My landlord pulls another squirrel out of my bedroom wall! It was insane! Luckily they were pretty calm and my landlord just picked em up with his hands and took em outside.

As someone who has had squirrels living in my walls for easily a few years, it was the scariest thing ever when we realized one of them was digging through the office ceiling. We've been trying to get them gone for ages: cage traps (because uh, not into killing them, just relocation), cement boards on where they dig in the front of the house, scent deterrents.
They're so determined and honestly? We've accepted it. It's the squirrels' house now, we're just unwelcome visitors lmao.
