I have always been so picky with food, that my mom learned very quickly she could not make me eat cafeteria food. Because if we tried that, I simply wouldn't eat. So I packed a lunch the entirety of my school years. And because I was bullied, I spent several of those years, eating it in the bathroom...
god eating in the bathroom sucks hope ur fine from those bullies
SCREW BULLIES
Who the fuck bullies people for eating packed lunch? I wont have NOONE Shit on my mothers cooking
I can relate…I was rather picky and the food in our cafeteria was pretty low quality and always cold. I packed ever since kindergarten and still did up until 8th grade. Luckily, I wasn’t bullied, (to my face), although it was obvious I was picky since I always packed.
Well at least you didn’t eat the school food
You make me feel very happy that I made my own lunches. All of that looked so nasty... and a little traumatizing to think of any of it going near a human mouth.
Mac sticks were called “bosco sticks” back when I was in school lol. they were served with marinara sauce.
Fucking loved those. However I'm a bit confused here because at the school I went to they were different from the Mac sticks and were more like classic bread sticks (think Olive Garden) filled with cheese just like the Mac sticks. Is that what you had in mind or were mine different? Did yours also come in the Bosco stick bags?
Pragmatic _ same but they’re trash at my school

My middle school made the absolute best thing ever. It was called “dorito chicken” and its exactly how it sounds. I don’t know what they put in the stuff but it was amazing
My old school had Doritos and cheese bowls
This was the most relatable video ever, besides the fact that lunch was typically at 10:00 in my middle school which led to some serious eating disorders with some kids.
My school is VERY well funded and they have 10/10 food! Great Tacos, Barros pizza, delicious lunches, a whole ass snack bar line with Nutella and Sparkling Ice drinks, with dessert on the side! They serve these for dessert; Little cake bites (they look like erasers but taste good), churro donuts, or ice cream brownies and cookies on pizza day! I'm in love with this school but sadly, they don't serve the beautiful Max Sticks..

Oh, c'mon. Ramsay's homemade lunches are heavenly. Even you couldn't top off that.
In my high school we had a deal where you had to pick out: a main dish, a side, and a drink, in order to qualify for meals. But sometimes people just didn't want a whole meal or they didn't like what was available etc. So, rather than throw food away, we started putting the food we didn't want (packaged wise) on a specific counter for anyone who wanted it and it turned into an official place where students could get free food. It always made me happy that my fellow students saw a need and took steps to fix it. My school didn't have the best reputation, but at least I can say that no one ever went hungry.
What a good idea
Thats actually really nice!
Yeah my middle school had little trays on top of the trash cans where kids can put things they didn’t want, it was a nice way to get some extra grub

Nah I guess they only warm it up for the second lunch but the pizza is decent and I've seen worst
Damn, if I get food from the cafeteria from any of the schools I've gone to, there is a 25% chance I could get sick or it could be expired/moldy. I've seen them have applesauce that was moldy and tasted juce that didn't taste like juice anymore. The pizza's were solid grease shaped like tringles.
as someone who was basically required to eat lunch in elementary school (my code used to be 17095, after having it be "lent" to me from my brother) and we had to share the cafeteria with 4th/5th/3rd graders depending on what grade we were in, there were two lines that we had to line up in inside of the hallway, one being the one for "hot" lunches, which were basically the things in the cafeteria, and the other being packed lunches for the kids who packed food from home. thankfully, as i lived in a school district with hundreds of schools, lunches were entirely free, but the best we got were corndogs (which for some reason i stopped liking), very dry and obviously not chicken "chicken" nuggets that tasted like dirt, fritos shaped corn chips (which i absolutely loved, especially the ones with a burnt chip), and some other things that i dont really remember, but the rest were as equally as bad as each other. honestly, the ones that i stated were the only ones that tasted decent, as the other ones either always tasted freezer burnt or was noticeably old due to some of the packaged ones having a sell by (expiration?) date on them, and rarely we would get ones that were fresh from the freezer, which tasted fresher than most the other ones. ok this is kinda starting to get long due to me talking about stuff that probably doesnt really fit in here so imma just leave this here for now and come back to it later (whenever i get to it)

The food was always okay.
Only once was there something strange to eat, spinach with raw eggs..
I love how everyone from different countries reports how their food was at school.
My middle school lunch actually wasn't that bad we had pizza served everyday(although that could be kind of hit or miss), the daily changing food was usually decent(we had mac sticks too but they were called italian pizza dunkers), salad and sandwich boxes, and you could always buy chips, ice cream, a pretzel, or a cookie so usually you have at least something good

That and healthy doesnt mean good for you...
Healthy, according to current policy, just means it doesnt exceed a sugar value, and has a minimum nutrient content.
The minimum nutrient content that was put in place by Michelle Obama's program is actually lower than what most pediatricians recommend for a midday meal for growing school aged children, and according to my Nutrition course i took in college, its probably at least in part, responsible for the recent drop in avergae grades nationwide in public schools, as from what ive seen students are falling asleep, and complaining of hunger even after eating their school lunches.
Heck a kid at my brother's high school, which just barely meets the minimum standards (they got a massive budget increase, nearly triple the old budget, yet the entire increase was put into 'administrative costs') actually passed out because of low blood sugar due to the poor quality of the lunch he ate, and he paid for a second helping...

Oh boy this makes me appreciate more the meals I had at high school in France. They were cooked everyday by an onsite chef and his team, and it resembled an actual meal: entrée, a main course with greens, proteins and carbs, cheese and a dessert (and mini baguettes, because of course). Also water was the only drink.
It was not the best food I've ever had (cafeteria food never has been, never will be), but at least there was a lot of diversity and it opened my palate a lot: head cheese, shellfishes, spinach, celeri, beet roots, stewed meat...
At our school they give us biscuits and chicken gravy it is crap quality and we get canned fruit and veggies we get milk and if you pay extra you can have a bag of chips someday we get mini slushes that taste weird and we also get brownies sometimes if we are lucky

I remember at my elementary school, in the morning we has to take a magnet with our name on it and put it under whatever food option we wanted so they knew how much to make of everything (it was also how they took attendance). Some days there is only chips at school no nachos😭
I'm pretty sure those pics where taken of the lunches by the school so they look better and have way more food than you would normally get.
I can answer that, in part at least! It depends on a few variables. How is your county's school nutrition program funded? Is it reimbursed by the state meaning that your receive funds based on how many meals which meet nutritional requirements are served or is it funded by selling meals to the students? Who are your county's school nutrition vendors, meaning who do they purchase food from? Certain items may not be available in certain states or may be too expensive given the funding available for the program.

In Australia we had what we called the traffic light system. Healthy foods were green, "healthy" junk food was amber and junk food was red. No school was allowed to sell food that was in the red.
Majority of kids brought their own lunches as the canteen was pretty pricey and something you'd get as a treat every now and then. Why was it pricey? Because it was quality! I'm taking meat pies, sausage rolls, tomato sauce, mini homemade pizzas.
Australian canteens are God Tier.
its so odd to me when i hear about cafeterias and sitting in those when i'd always stay in my homeroom for snack and lunch, odd how different school systems work
Ya same Aussie rocks *and (in my knowledge) don’t have indoor eating areas there just outside on concrete, and the “cafeteria” which we call tuckshop, was also outside.
Doesn't sound that great if it's too expensive for most kids.... School lunches shouldn't be expensive
My favorite meal in middle school is there breakfast for lunch days
@@darsparx To be fair though, most kids don't rely on the canteen to eat (unlike in America) as the OP commenter said, most kids brought their own lunch. So no, in Australia they aren't "school lunches" if 90% of kids bring their own food. The canteen (meanwhile was also used for things like sausage rolls and pies) was mostly a place to buy drinks or ice creams or snacks and things. Sorry if this reply sounds passive-aggressive, just trying to educate on what happens over here :)

I was very fortunate that my Mum gave me a packed lunch almost everyday for my entire school life up until year 11 (sophomore year) when I had so many exercise books, mock tests and folders that I couldn’t fit my lunchbox in my locker (we only had small lockers).
So that last year was mostly school meals. The quality wasn’t bad but it wasn’t healthy. Mostly pizza and chips, pasta pots, jacket potatoes and cheese & chilli from memory. There was a pick and mix salad cart but that was only for teachers and sixth form (juniors and seniors).
If you were lucky, you might nab one of four salad pots from the fridge.
They did a Christmas lunch that year which was mostly turkey, mashed potato and gravy with a single slice of a carrot and one floret of broccoli. The carrot was so undercooked, as I attempted to grab it with my fork, it pinged off the plate and hit a staff member on duty square in the back. I was so embarrassed!
Long story short, I put on at least a stone if not more in weight that year and I’m convinced it was the school dinners that did it. Although it was exam year, so there may have been a little stress-eating at times but nothing hugely changed in my diet other than school meals.
Again, quality was decent, just lacking in the veg and fruit options which I found ironic given how school would always tell us how important it was to eat healthy.

man in my country the latest time for recess in primary school is 10:45-11:15 (10:45-11:15 for P5 & 11:15-11:45 for P6 in 2020-2021, covid sucks man) and THAT'S for the upper primary students (P5-P6), but the teachers either came early or dismissed us late so it's usually around 20-25 minutes. the food there is like our local hawker centre and snack conveniece store but they didn't have certain foods like carrot cake (it's not a literal carrot cake and i don't think any actual carrots or cakes are involved in the dish but it's still yummy). the earliest time for recess are for the P1-P2 students (lower primary) is 9:45-10:10 (ik it's supposed to be 10:15 but for some reason it was scheduled like that but the lower primary students didn't care as long as they got to eat + play). not to sure about high school, jc/poly (junior cllege/polytechnic) and uni i'll have to check with my seniors about the high school part
we have lunch breaks on "long days" (wednesday & thursday) and cca (co-curricular activities, it's for the P3-P6s and it's on every tuesday/friday, depending on what cca you choose) the P1s/P2s' lunch break will be 1:15-1:45, P3s/P4s will be 1:45-12:15 and P5s/P6s will be 12:15-12:45. for cca days it'll just be the same as P1/P2 lunch breaks. dismissal time varies for P5s & P6s' long day
for P5s & P6s they have this thing called "supplementary classes" which basically mean that they would get you to stay back until 3:45 to basically learn the same stuff as you would learn in normal class time (it's basically useless) and it's not like remedial where you're given a consent form + get to "choose" what subject you wanna improve on (ur parents ultimately decide for you) + you have to get it signed by your parents and hand the form in the next day (tho originally P5s would get remedial lessons like P3s & P4s so idk why the school changed it). it used to be every wednesday for P6s but bc they were pulled out from cca in preparation for this year's national exam (i'm P6 so ik this but my juniors would know that too) it became every tuesday AND friday in term 2 (lunch break and dismissal time is the same. but some P6s have foundation subjects (basically mean that they are so poor in english/mother tongue/math/science that they have to learn P1 and P2 level for the subject) so they have "foundation classes" every wednesday (so they got to skip SOME of the remedial classes but now they can't)
so yeah the schedule is pretty chaotic at my school.
School: eat healthy!

I’m jealous of people who have actually decent or restaurant worthy food at their school
At my old school it was a gamble either it was good or X_X
My old middle school had actual good food. The pizza actually tasted like a pizza
Then you'd probably want to live in Finland (my home country), because the school food here is considered the best in the whole world! (freshness and nutrient wise, anyway)😋🥗🍲
I just take my lunch, but overall public schools suck.

Ah what I wouldn’t give to live in a country that actually gave its education system adequate thought, funding, and quality control
It's been three years but I came here to say, "square sausage pizza was the pinnacle of the culinary arts."
My favorite in highschool was what i dubbed fish nuggets. They were bassically just fishnsticks but in the shape of a fishes and stars and i loved them!
