It's insane how Mel is creating a whole new aesthetic and almost a new universe with her album. This is beyond inspirational ❤🍄
She's not just some alternative artist, she's the whole generation!
I'm so grateful that she made this song. We always talk about people dealing with drug addictions but never the people who have to struggle to help them. I know someone who was offered all the help we could give, almost every last ounce of help, and kept taking advantage of the help. We knew the addiction was a "cry for help" but we exhausted everything we could do they had no other choice than to help themselves. Thankfully they went down the route of recovery after the last attempt of help. Dealing with someone who is struggling with a drug addiction you struggle with them, it hurts to see them like that. It took a heavy toll on my own health.
Thats why I love this song so much, to me it represents the battle of trying to help and it reminds me of what could've happened if that help was never taken.
Please if you are struggling with a drug addiction do not make the people trying to help you struggle as well. It is yours to decide whether you are going to take that help or not. Please please take it, it will be hard but it will be so worth it.
Feeling this so hard right now. Im watching my childhood bestfriend slowly die while shes starting to hate me for taking a step back when I did my damnedest. I cant be the only person she relies on and she cant make me watch her die in silence. I made sure her mother was updated full transparency on everything and that shed have that support system while I took time. I think she thought my break was going to be like 2 weeks, not the month 1/2 ive taken so far. We left off on alright terms but this morning I woke up to a text abt how I left her when it got bad, as though I wasnt there all the other times functioning under her 'rules'. I'm pretty sure she was high/drunk when she sent it to me. It hurts when she acts like I didnt try. I really did and still love her very much, but when I set a boundary and she acts like its all over its hard on my mental health either way when trying to guess if its her or the drugs. I dont like when she acts like she knows me better than I know myself. It feels like I'm being put down. She has a boyfriend thats also very toxic and they feed off eachother addictions as well. It hurts. And I think I'm going to have to take a permanent step back soon. She thinks I left her so easily. Its not easy. It hurts. Sometimes I wish it was easy to leave her behind in my life. I know I'm not personally responsible for anyones happiness but its so hard watching her waste away to drugs. And that terrible boyfriend that she refuses to leave. You can only do so much. And deal with the guilt afterwards. I'm glad to see a comment like yours. It makes me feel seen and less alone. Thank you for that.
I feel this. It's not bad to try and save the people you love. But sometimes you have to jump ship so you won't drown along with them.

You scream for them to turn around until you can't anymore because your voice is exhausted. Both the screaming and exhaustion eat you up inside, so, sometimes it's better to let your voice relax. You offered everything you could and they chose not to take it, so please relax your voice. I do hope your friend is in a better place now and she's recognized she's hurting herself and as well others around her. Once again, thank you for sharing your story and you are never alone.

My husband has a friend who keeps falling back into coke no matter how much people help him. My husband recently had to cut contact even though they've been like brothers since they were kids (the guy even lived with him for years in high school) i showed my husband this song and he loved it. He really resonated with it. Drug addictions never just hurt the person doing them.

this song speaks to me so much.
i dealt my mom's heroin addiction from when i was eight years old to when i was 12, although being a song about cocaine addiction it still brings the same emotions through and i cry everytime i listen to it or sing along. i found Melanie's music when i was eight years old and always connected to her music so much but this song takes it. i love the detail of her distorted almost muffled voice in the beginning to symbolize the person struggling through addiction being so clouded and unaware of themselves while you're stuck trying to help them out of their cycle and i love how her voice gets a bit more clearer towards the end (after the sniffing noises). everything about this song is so perfect to me

My family struggles with alcoholism, and you described how I feel about this song perfectly.
My dad struggles with meth and cocaine, he has done unspeakable things and I tried to help him. I was 10 when he started and I'm 22 and he's still on them. Whenever I try to get him to at least apologize or own up to what he did to me, he denies it and I'm struggling with it.
Is it just me or the little whistles on the chorus is so beautiful. I remember first listening to this song and gasping bc of that one whistle. Thank u Melanie.

this song is criminally underrated. it is a fucking MASTERPIECE. it’s so angelic and i wish more people knew about it or at least talked about it more! (also she sounds like a wind instrument and i honestly love it)
I really like this song because the vocals are different, it shows character growth / it matches the meaning of this song. Melanie is basically describing how someone who is struggling with a poor addiction or other destructive behaviours. The lyrics suggest that the person who is struggling needs help but they refuse to seek it. As you can hear, “Powder” is repeated multiple times in the song which could be a metaphor for drugs or a symbolism for destructive behaviour that the person is engaging in. Therefore, it could mean a toxic relationship that Melanie is singing about. 🤍🕯️

@@sss-hq6ys Hmm, I think there's a deep context to it all, but what I took from this song was the topic of drug addiction. It may be directed universally, but Melanie perhaps be directing this song to a certain someone.
"Blood falling out from your nose and I'm wonderin "How?"" Refers to when someone intakes these substances causing nose bleeds, in which Melanie might be left feeling astonished or annoyed.
"Eyes Rollin back and I'm wonderin, "How?"" Refers to a possible overdose, and Melanie questions why they would let themselves get to this point.
The Pre-Chorus of the song to me referred to Melanie trying to be there for this person, but they ingnore her help. Ignores her well being, and how she is effected by all of this.
I also took, 3:00 as a sound of someone intaking through their nose.
Overall, the "Powder" may refer to drugs, in the form of a powdery substance. I thought those were key lyrics/points, so those were just my two cents from the song. I hope that somewhat helps! ^_^

I interpreted this song as dealing with close ones that have self destructive tendencies, and its so heartbreaking, when you have a family member and friends that act like that,its so conflicting bc you wanna help them but they dont want help, and all you can do is sit and watch as they slowly kill themselves,this just hits like a brick in the face

I don't understand why this song is so underrated, is so beautiful to me, so ethereal. It is my number one of the entire album even though the people disagree and doesn't like it
Powder is such an emotional rollercoaster.
Powder explores the struggles of being in a relationship with a drug addict. When somebody is addicted to drugs, it can be hard for them to stop. Thats why Melanie says “I know its a cry for help”. Mel understands that sometimes people who are addicted don’t want to quit, but internally know they need to.
Mel sings this live with so much emotion.
Such an amazing and heart breaking song. As someone that battled with addiction, you don’t really see or realize what it’s doing to those around you until it’s too late. 😭
She’s just so talented. She deserves all the recognition!! 🤍
