    Before too many crazy comments come in let me explain a few things i should have in the video.
    1. Its just a wheel well and some trunk sheet metal, were not working with frame rails here.
    2. Although this might not look the cleanest (you'll never see it anyways), the OEM inner panels to replace everything would cost thousands of dollars and then to fit the widebody id have to cut most of them in half. So that seemed like a giant waste of time and money to me.

    I work in an automotive manufacturing plant. Most of the time a repair like this is ABSOLUTELY fine. Cars are manufactured with overkill engineering. Way more spot welds than needed,sealer and adhesive as strong, or stronger than welds etc.. This is perfectly repaired.

    You should only seam seal small sections so it won't dry before you have a chance to spread it evenly. Don't worry about it drying in the gun, that air gun you have will push it through the tip for a good half hour. Plus you should invest in some acid brushes to make it even instead of your finger they're actually pretty cheap and extremely useful.
    Btw much respect! love your channel. Fabricating is much different than just rebuilding. Most of these KRplusr's that rebuild won't even attempt that level of fabrication so it's fun to watch. Mad props 👊

    Those spot welds will start break one by one. Body is flexible. That is why it’s spot welded. You had to fully weld that inner quarter panel to the car. Slowly, with the compressed air. Instantly cooling the welding spots. 3-4 spot welds, filling. And so on. What you did, is wrong. You have to take sealer off, weld everything properly.

    What’s the benefits on spot welding it to full seam weld?

    • @estxcrew
      @estxcrew 5 년 전

      You can't really weld metal that thin in one go without things starting to bend. To get a full seam effect you'd more or less have to do bits here and there until you cover the entire seam. What you see here in the wheel well is more of a tack weld than a spot weld though. Spot welds are very strong if done correctly (as is displayed by his inability to drill out factory spot welds with a regular drill).

      james goodwin because the designers found it easier to mirror that 3-D model, and so there wouldn't be any chance that the trunk would bounce back open before latching due to inability to evacuate the air volume inside the trunk. removing all vents would possibly cause this to happen when closed quickly or hard. One should still be plenty sufficient to vent air when closing the trunk lid.

    Between this hack of a quarter panel fix, tricking th airbag system into believe the bags were replaced, and removing the occupancy sensor from the passenger seat i dont see how this vehicle will possibly pass an enhanced vehicle inspection. Id share this for my car friends to see what not to do but that would just get your page more views when it really just needs shut down.

    Sloppy work man. This is why you should have just bought the inner panel or found another wrecked Skyline and used it as the donor car for this panel. If this car passes inspection to be road worthy again, the inspector didn't do his job. This would never pass in my neck of the woods. H is for Hack

    Everything else has been great so far, but this looks like shit. I get that it'll never be seen, but how are you going to get a special carbon fiber quarter panel and just slap the wheel well together? Just knowing that is on my car would be enough to drive me nuts.

  • @caseyn720
    @caseyn720 5 년 전 +181

    Well I’ve been watching this channel for a while and I need to say I just can’t take the hackery any longer. I have seen so many things that have just made me cringe. The corner cutting just to get things finished quickly is irresponsible and unsafe. Now that you have chosen a fairly quick car to “build” I would have hoped to see some true workmanship. I liked how you put the heated seat elements into your new seats. But leaving out the airbag sensor just because you put camera gear on your seat sometimes is highly irresponsible. Use the trunk. Also I feel like since that left rear wheel well has the strut bolted to it it may need to be stronger than how you’ve made it in this video. A lot of force is focused to that strut mount area. And even if it isn’t structural and nobody will ever see it, take some pride and build it as if everybody will see it. That’s what separates the pros from the amateurs. Im not trying to bash this channel but I read a lot of comments from younger people who are probably just getting into vehicles and messing around with them. Why not show them the right way to do things. All the best but I am unsubscribing.

      I agree,it doesn't matter if you cannot see it, it must look good. You won't be able to sell that car to anybody looking like that under the wheel arch. Sorry B is for build, that is how I feel about that inner fender bit you did.

      Couldnt agree more. I also thought that being an expensive, fast car, that this build would be a quality build. Then I see this shit. One unmatching carbon fibre panel, the inner sheet metal being butchered, no attention to the rest of the car in the way of proper measurements to be sure the entire unibody is still straight.
      Completely careless

    I'm scared to see how you are going to attach the CF fender to the home made inner fender...this build/repair definitely puts the "B" in backyard fix :)...My fav part was definitely “these seams are looking much better after they’re all sealed up”...as you then do the rapid camera movement where nobody can focus clearly on one “completed” seam...clever trick
