Neo-nazis were using "1844" for a bit because too many people were recognising the codeword "1488", and they wanted it to sound even more unhinged when someone tried to unmask them.
In all probability the ad wasn't directly programmed by neo-nazis though. Might just be computer generated by an algorithm that had too much 4chan in its training data, or written by someone who was seeing the code floating around and thought it was a meme number like 420 or 69.
